Social media shutdown

It had become a common feature of governments in Africa to shutdown access to social media sites or the internet during elections. Can the same be attempted over here considering 2017 is an election year?

DRC is the latest casualty

It’s also happening in the first word. For instance after Trumps win despite the the smear campaign by mainstream media, governments are very scared. In Germany, Merkel’s party is also sponsoring legislation to muzzle social media like Facebook asking them to become responsible and liable for content posted on their websites.

We are one of the few countries in Africa that enjoys freedom of speech. Cheki vile UK kwa timeline huletwa juu.

can never happen in Kenya. Those politicians will be all over setting up their campaign pages on Facebook and Twitter, and employ bots to like, share and retweet their posts
