Some Life Hacks (Pt. 2)

When moving or redecorating, take a picture of the back of your TV or tech equipment to easily remember how everything hooks up.

Dropped your phone in water? Remove the back case and battery then put the phone IMMEDIATELY in a bag of rice. The rice will absorb the water and can potentially save your phone from death.

Did your phone freeze? Plug it into a charger to free it up again.

Fix a scratched CD or DVD by rubbing a peeled banana on it and then buffing it out with the outside of the peel.

If you want to access Spotify, Netflix, Pandora or Hulu outside the United States, download the Chrome or Firefox extension called Media Hint.

If a YouTube video is forcing you to sign in, delete everything after the last “v=” and then change “v=” to “v/”.

To make YouTube videos load faster, right click on the video, hit Settings, and move the “local storage” scroll bar all the way to the right.

Instead of using the “Ctrl + Alt + Del” function to go to the task manager in Windows, press “Ctrl + Shift + Esc” to open it up right away.

When you copy something from the Internet, use “Ctrl + Shift + V” to paste it. This will prevent the text from formatting.

Can’t read the text on a website? Press “Control +” to zoom in on a PC and “Command +” to zoom in on a Mac.

Forgot your computer password? Boot up in safe mode (F8 during startup), log in as the administrator, and then change your password.

When doing a presentation in PowerPoint, always save it as a “PowerPoint Show” (.ppsx). This will open it directly to the slideshow.

If a website is blocked on your school’s Internet, you can use Google Translate as a proxy. Just copy and paste the URL into it.

Tired of getting bombarded with spam? Keep two e-mail accounts with different passwords, so that one of these can be used exclusively for registering online accounts. This will prevent a ton of spam from hitting your inbox and your main account from being hacked.

10MinuteMail.com gives you a fake e-mail address so you don’t have to use your own personal e-mail address when signing up for things.

In your e-mail inbox, search for “unsubscribe” to find all of the newsletters you never bothered to unsubscribe from.

You can extend the length of a free trial by pushing back the date on your computer!
