When showing people a pic on your smartphone, zoom in just a little bit on the pic so that they can’t easily swipe to the other pictures.

If you accidentally text the wrong person, immediately switch your phone to airplane mode. Once the message fails to deliver, delete it from your phone.

If you want someone to stop texting you, but don’t want to permanently block them, trick them by replying with something along the lines of “SERVICE ERROR 305: MESSAGE DELIVERY FAILED. PLEASE TRY AGAIN IN 12 HOURS.”

You can amplify the sound of laptop speakers by cutting those disposable plastic cups in half and placing each half over the speakers. A very barbaric way of amplifying sound, but it words well in a party emergency.

Have a long lecture video you have to watch on YouTube or offline? Simply go to the playback settings and opt for the 2x speed. It may sound a little funny at first, but you can easily understand what is being said, and watch it in half the time.

Don’t want your personal data all over the internet? Visit Accountkiller.com. You can remove any extraneous data from old and unwanted sites at once.

Have a bunch of work to do, but find yourself constantly distracted by the internet? Go to KeepMeOut.com. It will let you block websites for a certain period of time, so you will stay focused on the task at hand.

Need to cite a quote from a book? Don’t bother looking through every page to find it. All you need to do is type the quote into Google Books. It will automatically tell you the page number and the source it derived it from.

Want to read faster? Chew gum. This can double or even triple your reading speed because it distracts the brain signals from your eyes, ears, and mouth by giving them something to focus on.

Also, going into an exam in a few hours but feeling jittery? Try eating a bar of dark chocolate. It is a great mood enhancer and boosts concentration.

Instead of hitting backspace multiple times to correct misspelled words, erase the whole word by pressing CTRL + BACKSPACE. This saves a lot of time when writing essays or working on a written project.

When visiting a .com site, avoid typing the whole address on the address bar by simply typing the middle part of the address then pressing CTRL + ENTER. For instance, just type kenyatalk on the address bar, press the two buttons above and your browser will automatically put http://www.kenyatalk.com and take you to the site.

Hate how videos automatically play on Facebook? Turn them off by going to Facebook.com/settings. Then go to “Videos” and switch the tab to “Off”.

Android users: After purchasing an app from Google Play, you can try it out for two hours and “return” it for a refund if you are not satisfied with it.

Drop a battery from six inches off the ground. If they give one small bounce, then they are still useable. If they bounce around anymore, then they are dead or have a very low charge.

Avoid charging your laptop battery all the way. If you charge it to 80% instead of 100%, you can greatly extend the usable lifespan of the battery.

Turn any chord into a “coil-like” chord (similar to the ones on old wired phones) by wrapping it around a pen and blow drying it for five minutes. This type of chord saves space, especially in car dashboards.

If you lose biros way too often eg at work or school, simply put your blue/ black ink cartridges into cases for red/ green pens (or any other less stolen color pen). People rarely steal red or green pens.

Save money on your water bill by putting a brick in your toilet tank. You may lose a tiny bit of pressure, but you will save a bricks worth of water (about ¾ of a gallon) each time you flush.

Don’t buy new paintbrushes if yours are old and crusty. Restore your used brushes by tossing them into a bowl of vinegar for 30 minutes. They will be good as new once you dry them off!

If you ever go out of town for a long period of time, save money on your electricity bill by unplugging all of your electronics. Even if something is turned off, it still feeds on electricity when it is plugged in. This is especially true for things like your microwave and plug-in lights.
