Sterling joins Manchester City - what does £49m buy these days?

The 20-year-old has become the most expensive English footballer of all time, so here is a look at the numbers behind the player’s rise to prominence

Raheem Sterling has sealed his £49 million (€70m) move to Manchester City following an acrimonious PR war with Liverpool.

The 20-year-old has become the most expensive English footballer of all time but just how good is he?

In his breakout season, in 2013-14, he was a key part of the Liverpool team which went so very close to winning the Premier League, and now joins a club expected to win the title every year.

Last year was not quite as productive for Sterling, though. With Daniel Sturridge missing most of the campaign through injury and Luis Suarez enjoying life at Barcelona, Sterling was left to toil on his own.

English players are overrated if you ask me.

The homegrown rules added about £10 million to every decent English player’s price tag

In return, Liverpool wants to buy Benteke for 32 mil pounds. This transfer window is full of crap.

Anything is possible nowadays. Liverfools bought Andy Carroll for £35 million

This boy is gud but jst not worth £49M

He’s still young, that price tag is going to put pressure on his form and performance which can easily be screwed

Anything that makes pool weak is good news for us reds ion i can’t see them break into the top 4 nxt season
