Even fuel prices are falling. I now get just over 10 liters for 1K . Evidence of a stronger shilling

Watu wa kuexport wanasema aje??

Hata ishuke to 80 and the benefits do not trickle down, ni umeffi tu!

Watu kama mimi who are paid in dollars, hii new stronger shilling inasumbua hesabu

no. the reason was the drop in crude oil prices.

USD vs KES has been steady for the last few months (± 1 bob).
Crude oil price fell by almost 50% in the last few months

Hata ikipanda na wanazuia tusinunue kutoka China in the pretext of eradicating counterfeit goods?
And then as our shilling gets stronger, our neighbors’ currencies are getting weaker and weaker… I see a bad situation here. Because they change their currencies into Kenya shilling and pap! Their money decreases! Then our goods become very expensive for them. Meanwhile, our stronger shilling means that you can get more goods for the same amount across the border than within the border. Sema them catching up with us!

could be … but crude oil prices have been falling over the past years with no much change in pump prices. A strong shilling favors importers

Kshs is the 2 best performing currency against the usd in the last 3 years. It is the best in Africa. When all the African currencies lost value to the dollar Kshs appreciated by 1.08%. Marginal but a strong indicator of our diversified economy. Last year Kshs lost 3-4 shillings to the dollar and people couldn’t breath here. They relocated to Ethiopia. I think they are now safely back.

IMF must be hating this

From this month of March a lot of FDI for projects are expected up to December. Our forex cover will surpass 6 months in the next few months.

Stronger shilling doesn’t necessarily mean stronger economy. Let’s make it clear. Na ka hujui uliza uelezewe.

I think CBK is strengthening the shilling for one reason - to make foreign debt repayments cheaper. a debt of $1b which was KES 101b a few months ago is now KES 99b.

Baba, to strengthen the shilling, CBK has to sell dollars into the market. Now this runs counter if they need the same dollars to meet loan obligations
