Sugarcane alternatives?

Looks like this bitter sweet story of cane is getting to sour…any agricultural gurus wa western hapa to shed light on other options apart from cane? Got 11 acres.

Ground nuts(the pure red ones), maize, dairy farming.

The sugar story soured a long time ago…weren’t Nzoia farmers using cane as firewood as early as the mid-90s?

My parents grow them along with maize sorghum, beans n ndegu. All the crops give good yield except for groundnuts which i feel they don’t put much effort into. Though per harvest we get like 2 or 3 sacks before the nut covers are taken off

there were plans to build a megadam in T/Nzoia to conserve water for dry season, control flooding in lower catchment…walipiga siasa kama ya sukari the documents were put on hold to date…

am not being tribal but from what i have seen luhyas need to get their act together, the disunity among their subtribes is too high. if they joined and “talked politically” together like luos no government would ignore them like the situation is currently. that way they would be able to lobby for and get mega irrigation projects, hydro electric plants etc
