Swahili in Muscat Oman

Am surprised to find many arabs in Oman speaking swahili fluently. Any history guru on this

Most of the Arabs that settled and traded in East Africa in the Middle Ages were from Oman. Akina Balala, Mazrui, Busaidis of Zanzibar can all trace their ancestry back to Oman.

What do they teach you in schools these days?
Google or read on the Oman Sultanate.
Also ask yourself why you hear swahili people saying pwani so Kenya. Somehow pwani si Kenya but those treaties are long ignored.

You know the way people in ushago say they have relatives in Nairobi…it is the same way waswahili in ugunja and coast if Kenya say about Oman. Oman is pwani ndogo. Swahili is like their second language.

Omani arabs colonised East Afrcan coast back in the days. Ulisomea history wapi?

History inatufunza hivi,Ukikumbuka early visitors to the East African Coast,Arabs were among them.Seyyid Seid na Kina the Mazrui Family
Reasons why Seyyid Seid moved his Capital from Muscat to Zanzibar;
~Zanzibar had deep natural harbours which could dock huge ships
~Ilikuwa Island so defense was easy as you could view enemies from all sides
~Zanzibar had a good climate
~Internal wrangles in Muscat made it hard to govern.
So the Kiswahili lingua came as a result of intermarriages between Bantus(Coastal sanasana) and Arabs. Most kiswahili words zinatolewa kwa Bantus language.eg(.Mundu,Muntu to make Mtu) and from Arabic.eg.Salamu kama Kina Aleikum salam na zingine and pia from Kireno(portugese).eg.Lameza became meza na kina mvinyo.

Why pwani sio kenya datea back to the 1890s .The Treaty between Seyyid Seid and the British when they declared Kenya as a Sphere of Influence. They had to give him the 10 mile coastal strip from hapo Somalia to Tz so as to allow them safe passage to Goa in India.
End of lesson.Kujieni assignment na kama kuna maswali yaje.

I want to know about the repatriation of zinjibari arabs back to oman after the zanzibar war. What happened to the sultanate and is there a relationship between the currebt sultan of oman and the last sultan of zanzibar…

Okay, most the Arabs hawakurudi Oman, they were left behind and settled in the Coastal towns from kenya to mozambique. Most of them also settled in Zanzibar. And yes,the Sultan of Zanzibar is related the Sultan of Oman. It’s very complex tracing the family tree line.Lakini kumbuka Waarabu hao ndio waliintroduce Islam religion in Africa(East Africa in Particular).

What do you say about this

The Zanzibar Sultanate actually acted as the Capital of the Oman Empire. And the sultanate went all the way up to Lamu and Down close to Beira at it’s peak. That’s why Northern Mozambique is predominantly Swahili Speaking too. And the Zanzibar Revolution also saw a Purge of a large number of mostly Swahili speaking Zanzibari Arabs back to Oman.

Good stuff

true, in fact the coast was ruled by the Sultan of Oman for many centuries.

unatafta nini oman

Ugunja is a town along the Kisumu-Busia road… Unguja on the other hand…is Zanzibar.

Yemen dude yemen

Hehe…hehe yuko kwa kina learned friend Orengo. Pore ni athari ya mama inasumbua

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Eeerm. No.
Kenyan Arabs are mostly Yemeni and Saudi in ancestry. For the case of Lamu, there are Persians and Iranian Arab ancestry as well(Shirazi). Omani Arabs went mainly to Zanzibar and TZ, not Mombasa,Malindi or Lamu.
And the Mazruis predate the Omanis by centuries!!

Yaani this guy expects us to feel sorry for Arab slavers? They got what they deserved. Na he’s talking about African propaganda while spreading propaganda himself, telling us slavery ended ten centuries ago. We all know the Sultan was forced by the British to abolish slavery in the late 1800s, otherwise it’d have still been very much alive on the island. Even then I don’t think it ended immediately. By the time of that revolution, there were people still alive who had been actual slaves.

That Okello guy was an interesting character. A Christian Nilote from Uganda was able to politically charge Bantu Muslims with a totally foreign way of life to kill their fellow Muslims?
