This is in Athi River, not Syokimau. But in such a scenario, who is supposed to compensate the home owners? The devloper, government… or they go drying? And if they are to be compensated, will they be given an amount equal to the current value of their homes or the initial amount they bought their homes for?
Another funny thing is, while in other countries estates like this will have their values go down, here in Kenya these properties will still continue appreciating in value.

Obviously, government institutions led by NEMA are to blame here for giving approvals through the back door. The houses are less than 60 metres from the river and there are other houses coming up just across. I think they belong to Safaricom Investment Corporation (SIC). Every time I passed by that place I literally shake my head because those houses are nearer to the river than Greenspan’s (they are less than 40 metres away from the river and that’s another disaster waiting to happen should the river flood again.
Ama the management agree to build levees at their own cost if they don’t want the houses torn down
