Mau Mau General Mbaria Kaniu and his Wife after their capture.Although little is known about what happened to Freedom fighter and Mau Mau General, Mbaria Kaniu, history books clearly describe him as a man of Honour who was ready to sacrifice his life in the name of Love.According to Historians,Mbaria allowed himself to be captured by the Colonial Government even though he had a good chance of running away.Apparently, his wife had been shot and he could not leave her alone

Ato Lemma Ayanu,74 at the time, arriving in Kenya at JKIA in 2003. President Mwai Kibaki’s invitation to grace Kenya’s Internal Self Governance Day (Madaraka Day) celebrations stunned Kenyans when he declared that he was not the Mau Mau General.
Former Mau Mau war veterans who met him on arrival were puzzled when Ayanu failed to utter a word in his native Kikuyu language or the national language,Swahili.Later, Internal Security assistant minister Joseph Kingi tabled a DNA test of Mr Lema Ayanu, which confirmed that Mr Ayanu was not related to the freedom fighter.
