There was this time I played Mathematics in the car with my teen cousin and he liked it so much he couldn’t stop telling me how Mos Def was underrated and how he deserved more recognition … blah blah blah. I just kept nodding my head not sure whether to be proud I got a “millennial” kid to like what is considered “backpacker” Hip-Hop or smack him about the head for his ignorance… how couldn’t this creature I call family not recognize the sound.

I think that is his best song this fact is sealed when he says:

Crack mothers, crack babies and AIDS patients
Young bloods can’t spell but they could rock you in PlayStation”

[FONT=Georgia]His album with Talib Kweli "Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star" is my GOAT. The two have the best chemistry ever and their rap is fluid and poetic. I like how they take shots at mainstream Hip-Hop ever so calmly through the varied Jazz rhythms while voicing the teachings of Marcus Garvey and advocating for the quelling of violence in Hip-Hop. Their references to both pop culture and literature reveals how knowledgeable these two are something Hip-Hop seems to have lost these days of instant gratification… no artist wants to send their listener to an encyclopedia, dictionary or any other reference material. I understand that type of Hip-Hop should exist, lakini bannaaaaaaa. Common and Hitek (producer) from the album “Reflection Eternal” are featured!!!

Talib and Mos Def, their rhyming is like an involuntary reflex, comes out very naturally you’d think it’s part of their nature. Real hiphop, no mediocrity.

Great stuff.

This post is illegal. How could you not have “brown sugar” in this place? Must confess that I love it mostly for the background vocals. Rap is tight too though
