The holy Family minor basilica parish is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. The current church as it stands was built in the 1940s and 1950s, with interruptions during the country’s liberation struggle for independence. The story of the construction of the church goes back to 1899, where the once tiny rail workers camp was growing in leaps and bounds. This impromptu settlement of the swampy plain (Nairobi), was an opportunity for the Catholic Church to cater for the religious needs of the community. pic 1 to your was taken in 1948 and the pic 2 was taken in 2011

“Talking of scars, I have one where after stealing my dad’s cheki maneno on Sunday wakiwa church, the brakes refused when I was downhill. Trying to catch the brakes, they snapped. Now am down hill meeting those perpendicular junctions za ushago. You cant turn right or left on that speed. Straight ahead Ni fence n next to it is a ditch…mtaro wa maji ndani Ni bananas Na hio mchanga ilitolewa ditch ikichimbwa Ni sweet potatoes. My friend, I left the bike on the ditch after going through the natural fence. I found myself sitting down in the maize plantation. What happened I couldn’t say. Couldn’t talk. I saw guys coming fast. When I next opened my eyes, my grandma was next to my bed praying having come all the way after stories went like bushfire of my accident. It was 6pm n I was recovering. No one ever questioned me on the incident again.”
