Tecno Phantom 6 with Mediatek Hello X20 Deca-core Processor

LONDON HERE WE COME
TECNO has been aiming its marketing paraphernalia at the Middle-east and Western markets in an effort to grow the brand’s consumer base in these regions. From experience, smartphone brands that try to reach consumers in the Middle-east and Western markets tend to put their flagship products up and I think TECNO is putting up the Phantom 6.
A closer look at the TECNO Phantom 6 reveals a smartphone with really good software and hardware upgrades – MediaTek Helio X20 Deca-core processor, Trifold security system (including fingerprint, eye scan technologies), full metal body and scale-tipping SONYTM rear camera are some of the upgrades we can affirmatively say either TECNO Phantom 6 or its variant Phantom 6+ will spot.
The phantom 6+ has five layered metal reinforcement. Our phones many a time let us down when it comes to buttressing our style. After using them for some time, they begin to look old, break at the edges and have unavoidable scratches everywhere around the body.

The design is a product of five different layers of reinforced metal to enhance durability. Each of the different layers adds unique elements to the sturdy appearance of the device while still maintaining the slim look.
The multinational brand TECNO has picked Dubai over London since it has made market gains into the Middle-eastern region already. TECNO’s 2015 camera flagship, the CAMON C8 was a huge success in markets like Egypt, Algeria and the UAE and consumers in these markets are quite familiar with the TECNO brand name.

Hii lazima itatembea na between 35K and 45K. My 10 cents.

Used to be a Samsung user and switched to Huawei after my phone died. Though the Huawei is cheaper and has better hardware, the Samsung beats in the software dept. The little gimmicky gestures (palm to screenshot, swipe hand to screenshot, phone to ear to call, slide left to message; left to call, shake to shuffle music, phone vibrate on picking phone when you have unread notifications, ringtone volume lowers on picking up phone, etc) really make the phone a lot more easier to use. I hope these new phone makers will add these UI enhancements. I have a feeling the cost will rise once they start adding those features to their phones… and upping their advert game.

And hang is with these gadgets they give you something and take away another. Samsung gives you the all in displaying some of the bells and whistles but cut back on battery and camera pixels among others. Huawei, Tecno, Infinix cut back on display but give you a high capacity battery and those small bells and whistles too like shake to play next song etc. Tecno’s strategy of focusing on Africa and growing West, and feature focused phones like C8 on camera and J8 on music is proving to be a winner

After wanisanye phantom 5 hii lazima nikwachu.

What the hell are you saying you guy

When it comes to bell and whistles, frankly no phone beats Samsung.

Examples:

  1. Easier multitasking
    a. Multi App view - View 2 apps at the same time
    b. Pop Up view - To view your app as a pop-up, drag the app in from the top left-hand corner. e.g. Minimizing apps the way you do with youtube videos on the youtube app
  2. Finger Print sensor. Since I experienced this I cannot own a phone without a fingerprint sensor. WAY faster and convenient than typing passwords or swiping. I read the tecno phantom 6 is planning to incorporate this so it is a big plus
  3. Iris Scanner for Note 7. If fingerprint is fast imagine how faster and convinient it is to unlock the phone by just looking at it.
  4. Samsung Smart Stay - Uses the front camera to sense when you are looking at your device, and it keeps the screen from turning off regardless of the screen timeout setting.
  5. Smart Scroll - Uses the front camera to sense when you are looking at your device and it scrolls through content such as lists, webpages and messages based on the angle you hold the device or your head.
  6. Has the best camera phone app
  7. Turn Over locomotive function - flip the phone to pause/mute stuff. Works for muting incoming calls, message alerts or alarms. This also lets you easily pause the music/video playback with the same way.
  8. Air Gestures e.g.
    a. Air Jump - scroll through a web page or your email by moving your hand up or down above the proximity sensor.
    b. Air Browse - move between pictures, pages or music tracks
    c. Air call accept - wave hand over the screen to accept incoming calls
    d. Quick Glance - reach towards your device when the screen is off to view important info
    e. Air Move - move app shortcuts or S planner events to different pages
  9. Download Booster - This is for non-peasants. Allow your device to download large files (over 30 megabytes in size) faster by using a Wi-Fi connection and a mobile data connection simultaneously.
  10. Edge Panels. To make use of the curved edges
  11. For gamers like myself the following is easier on a Samsung with Game Tools option
  • Easier to record or screenshot games when playing without relying on the game app to do so.
  • Block game interruptions. Only God knows how I hate whatsapp notifications and the like when I am busy slaying motherfuckers from all corners of the world on multiplayer MC5
  • Lock recent and back keys. This is the most important feature for a gamer. Avoid accidental hitting of these during gaming which happens a lot especially if you are playing FPS games
  1. Option to screen turned off in dark places e.g. the pocket
  2. One hand accessibility options. Anyone with a large phone knows it is literally impossible to use your phone with one hand. You can use this to minimize the size of the display to ease access
  3. Smart Alert - Phone vibrates when you pick it up to notify you about missed calls and messages
  4. Palm swipe - screenshot by swiping the edge of your hand across it, from side to side, keeping in contact with the screen. Way easier than that volume/home and power button simultaneous press on most phones
  5. Swipe right to call and left to message a contact
  6. Smart Capture - Allows you to screenshot lengthy stuff e.g. when you want to screenshot an article and share e.g. on KTALK :D:D you can scroll down and screenshot the full article rather than what is seen on the screen.
  7. Easy Mute. - For embarrassing situations e.g. when you get a call in public or headphone accidentally unplugs. Place your palm on the screen or lay the phone on its face
  8. Pin Windows - when you want to lock the app that’s onscreen before handing your phone over to someone else, then you can use pin windows feature. Was later introduced in Marshmallow
  9. Sound detectors - Doorbell and baby cry detectors. e.g. when you are listening to music or watching a movie
  10. Adapt Sound feature - for audiophilles
  11. Supports wireless charging and fast charging of course. The later is getting even more popular nowadays and has been introduced in the latest tecno as well I believe.
  12. Always on Display feature. See http://www.droid-life.com/2016/08/18/galaxy-note-7s-always-display-actually-shows-notifications/
  13. Adaptive Display

And I have not even listed all the bells and whistles :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Aside from these, there are also 2 other areas where the Samsung really shines.

  1. Screen

a. Gorilla glass - This screen is way harder to break compared to the rest of the screens for those that hate using phone protectors and other blemishes like myself. https://www.cnet.com/news/is-gorilla-glass-on-a-smartphone-really-all-that/
b. Quad HD display. - Since VR is becoming the new fad. It really sucks using VR without this screen
c. 1440 x 2560 pixels (~534 ppi pixel density) - Literally takes your breath away when watching videos

  1. Camera - The Samsung camera has been voted multiple times as the best camera for multiple years running. Camera is not only megapixels. Have you noted that phones with the best cameras e.g. iPhone, Nexus 6p, HTC 10, LG G5 have all less than <15MP #smh. Lazy manufacturers will slap you with a high pixel count since they notice most people know nothing on the camera except the megapixels and then leave you at that.
e.g. Note all these are packing an f1.8 aperture which takes sharper images while the tecno packs a f2.0 which is also good enough since it is the premier tecno phone anyway. The image processor also really matters. e.g. have you ever noticed even with the exact same aperture and MP, no 2 different makes of phones will produce the same quality a picture photo. Some are brighter or more colored etc. Here is where really expensive phones have pushed it a notch higher.

a. 4k video support and the option for 60fps in 1080p
b. Optical stabilisation, 4K video .
c. It can shoot slo-mo and will shrug off a downpour because the whole phone is water resistant.
d. HDR option
e. Time Lapse
g. Includes motion panorama

The only place I said where I prefer the tecno is the battery and the reason is this. All phones literally pack the same type of battery i.e. the lithium ion battery. Hence since the underlying technology is the same, the only ways that a phone can guarantee longer usage is by

  1. Increasing the battery since to support more mAh
  2. Using extremely effective processors. Snapdragon and Mediatek are really pushing the bounderies on this
  3. Fancy power reduction technics. Very common on high end phones mostly on Samsung and HTC

Now the extreme high end phones, prefer to have a smaller i.e. thinner battery so that the phone remains slim…read samsung and almost every >50k phone for the sleekness. Their argument is that with fast charging(30min charge can almost fill up the phone which probably lasts 12-24hrs depending on your usage) it is easier to just charge. I honestly prefer this since, I really do love a sleek phone…lol. Mid range smartphones sacrifice sleekness for battery life though. More practical for most users.

The tecno is a good phone. But please do not keep comparing it to the FLAGSHIP samsung phones as I said. It only wins on 2 fronts. A bigger battery and a cheaper price tag. Otherwise head to head on almost all other features it loses. The type of phone you buy really depends on your budget.

If you are on a 20k budget, Infinix is a clear winner for me. If you are on a 40k budget, I would take a Xiaomi though it is really hard to find high end Xiaomis locally since they are mainly meant for Western and Asian markets. Tecno Phantom 6 is comparable here since it will retail at around 40k locally I guess. If you are on a 50k budget, I would take the ZTE Axon or OnePlus 3. If on a 100k budget definitely an iPhone 7 or a Samsung S7. If this phone retails at 45K, I would pick the OnePlus 3 any day.

If money was not a problem, most people would go for the iPhone 7 or Samsung S7. And as Spear said on another post here: Facts are stubborn and they don’t change because you don’t like the fact or the bearer of the fact. #peace out bro

Summary

Tecno Phantom 6 is a great phone. Let’s not spoil it by comparing it with the greatest phones

I love smart stay…so long as am holding my phone it will never lock screen but the moment I set it aside for 1 min a screen lock is activated.

Ability to minimize video and continue using the phone.

Ir remote control…I don’t need a remote control for my TV my phone does that…

Side sync is just amazing

And the most important thing is that it’s almost impossible to hard brick a Samsung device while flashing it will always has option to go to recovery mode …on the other hand while flashing mtk u always have ua fingers crossed
