Tesla Master Plan Deux

Was going through Tesla’s master plan https://www.tesla.com/blog/master-plan-part-deux & my attention was drawn to the segment about Tesla sharing, must admit I am a big fan of Tesla.

“Sharing
When true self-driving is approved by
regulators, it will mean that you will be
able to summon your Tesla from pretty
much anywhere. Once it picks you up, you
will be able to sleep, read or do anything
else enroute to your destination.
You will also be able to add your car to the
Tesla shared fleet just by tapping a button
on the Tesla phone app and have it
generate income for you while you’re at
work or on vacation, significantly
offsetting and at times potentially
exceeding the monthly loan or lease cost.
This dramatically lowers the true cost of
ownership to the point where almost
anyone could own a Tesla. Since most cars
are only in use by their owner for 5% to
10% of the day, the fundamental
economic utility of a true self-driving car is
likely to be several times that of a car
which is not.
In cities where demand exceeds the supply
of customer-owned cars, Tesla will operate
its own fleet, ensuring you can always hail
a ride from us no matter where you are.”

Now that would be pretty impressive and would have other automakers chasing after that.

OK.

I’m very interested in seeing auto pilot going forward and becoming the standard. Given the option of going at 100 km/h on today’s highways, sharing the road with people without autopilot, or going at 250 km/h with autopilot on a highway where everyone else is also on autopilot, i would definitely go the autopilot way.Human judgement is flawed and needs to be compensated.

Mjinga. Hakuna kitu umesema.

Best part of Autopilot is that it’s continuosly learning how you drive and how all others are driving as well as the road and all that info is pushed into the cars’ computer, meaning it knows where there are sharp bends on roads you’ve never been on and how other drivers have navigated around them, now that’s impressive

Recently there was case involving a tesla car where the passenger was killed after the car was involved in an accident while on autopilot mode.

Remember reading something to that effect, Tesla said the car asked hin to take control when it could no longer clearly identify the lane markings or something close to that…they are adding sonar and another camera to curb such incidences

Watched the story on alJazeera am sure oil companies will not let this slide they are going to sponsor a lawsuit Chini ya maji on behalf of the family of the deceased person.

But you will be trusting your well-being to a commercial entities. You are assuming this commercial entity will always act in your interest. History has shown us that commercial entities will always act on their own self-interest.

automation provides consistency…that being said, there are CRAZY DRIVERS out here so you need to be constantly alert

Planes? Autopilot? Remember air travel is one of safest modes of transport.

And new information will be shared to the cars behind, e.g a stalled Lorry on the road, a narrow road due to construction and it will incoorporate speed limits

sonar in a car? @gashwin saidia what is sonar?

cameras and sonar can detect that and respond appropriately I guess imploring you to take control of the car…and probably push that info to other cars on that road, sort of what Waze does when an area is marked as having police, speed traps or construction so I think it should be possible

Also benefitial to people with disabilities

system that uses sound to locate objects; in simple terms…in air used by bats through what is called echolocation to help the navigate…
