The economy is almost dead - Jubilee Chieth is finally catching up with us

The economy is on its deathbed my people . Last week I visited carrefour galeria mall on Sunday and I found less than 20 customers with most of them buying not more than ten items with only two cashiers operating. KFC had only two customers being served . Brew bistro tap have given in and are shutting down this month. . Another supermarket along langata road is sounding distress call and may close soon. My close buddy tells me Nearly 200 multinational companies are on the edge and are considering their future in Kenya… Go to tuskys t-mall and you will notice cashiers are busy chatting as there are no customers. A number of apartments in kilimani and lavington are empty. 50% of offices in upperhill are empty with zero prospects of tenants. The 60 and 45 storey projects in upperhill opposite nhif and railways golf club respectively are dead for good. Na bado. Meanwhile team tanga tanga and Kieleweke are busy shouting and informing us the economy will grow by 6% this year. Is the economy growing on steroids and fake gold ?

Carrefour with 20 customers, KFC with 2?
Next time, don’t go to Carrefour or KFC at odd hours.

When you see TV adverts za Two Rivers si ujue tu ni kubaya. It means they aren’t getting enough traffic and tenants wameanza kusumbua/kuhama

Acha kufikiria kama mende kijana

Two rivers was once hailed to be the grandest mall in Africa. How times change!

Mimi hapa kangemi soko bado nasukumana tu na wananchi nikinunua nyanya

Hand-to-mouth economy

This year alone, Pizza Hut, Subway, Dominos and Cold Stone creamery have relocated from cbd locations. Food is a low cost item and people don’t stop eating out so the state of the economy must be really bad for most people. Very soon you will start seeing empty clubs on Friday nights. During economic slowdowns, the worst hit sectors are usually high end vehicles and real estate because they are costly. Ukiona catering inakauka jua shit has hit the fan.

Question is…at the current status…are u still affording two pili’s every friday…if u do…its not that bad…labda kwa wengine

Walevi wameanza kujibuyia pombe kwa keja. The economy is on ICU

Economy ni mbaya… Tu tajirishe gathecas na huduma number(mastercard) pole pole…

Whats the point kama unaingia club unapata mko tu wewe na beshte zako wawili on a Sato night and the rest of the club is empty?? Mimi hupenda kulewa place kuna watu wengi. Nowadays hebu enda club CBD on a Wednesday ama Saturday ujionee.

Hehehe oduma namba

Wacha waibe till there is nothing more. Then we grind to a halt

In January and February 2019 (Kenya):

- Porsche and BMW sold nothing in the Kenyan market during the period under review

 • Land Rover brand which also sells Range Rover recorded drop in sales from 14 to eight cars
 • In overall, sale of new vehicles in the Kenyan market dropped from 1,969 to 1,680 in 2019

Economic slowdowns affect people differently. For the poor, it affects their ability to afford basic needs (rent etc). For the middle class, it affects their ability to spend on trips, eating out etc…for the rich, it affects their ability to afford high end vehicles, private security, and to repay loans owed to banks (big loans).

The purchasing power of the ordinary guy has plummetted. Btw, just a matter of time before we go the Greece way.

It was going to get here sooner or later. VAT on every item in the market + high electricity tariffs are a tough combination. But survival is a must so cut down on all unnecessary purchases

I don’t agree…tell us what has changed for you as an individual. All these observations you are making were you window shopping? Ndio tujue kama wewe ni peasant.

I say let them steal till there is nothing left. Countries/humans are known to come to their senses when life becomes totally unbearable

nyinyi semanga tu economy ni mbaya , wegine wetu kama mimi tunaona economy iko poa tu sana
