So today I found myself down past Thika along Garissa road. I decided to visit The world famous Fourteen Falls. I was surprised to discover I was still in Kiambu County at the gate to the park as I had assumed I was in Machakos county. After paying 160 kshs at the gate I drove in and could not help noticing the pungent smell of urine in the air. At first I thought it was the public toilets near the gate, but as I walked towards the river it became clear where the smell was emanating from. The water was slothy and green as it cascaded downstream. At the base of the waterfalls, the water disappeared into a frothy foam. One hustler approached and offered to take me on 'adventure' by crossing the piss-stream barefoot! So here is where all of the sewage in Nairobi ends up. And to imagine we have Nema and other organisations purporting to be fighting environmental degradation.
