The simple difference

Have you ever wondered why the free market economy is something everyone wants and people fight so hard for? Well it is because a free market allows all sellers to be equal. So that the business with the best quality product and the fairest But if farmer B’s roots are discoloured and old, then the sales advantage goes to farmer A.

Furthermore, if farmer A is selling his large and fresh vegetables at the same price or lower as B then his product will sell even faster. The free market is run by the customer, you. This is what is at the heart of all business on every level. This is what drives economies.

Therefore, the free market rules state that competition is not a matter of the other one doing better. It is about your meeting the quality of standards that your clients expect.

Ethiopian Airlines has certainly met the standards of international travel expected by its regional customers and this is why it is leading the pack in the marketprice inevitably gets the most sales. This means for example that if farmer A has beetroots and farmer B has beetroots and they both bring them to market, whoever has the best beetroots will sell the most vegetables.

Falling short of the standard again and again, it is wrong for other players to point to their excelling competitors in the region and blame them for their failures as KQ has recently done. This is basically blaming external factors for internal problems.

Problems which include clear mismanagement leading to loss of billions of tax payers money in just a few years. On top of this, are the requests to curtail the flying rights of other airlines. This will only serve to inconvenience the competition not improve the failing airline.

Ethiopian airlines is not only an industry leader, it is the pearl of Ethiopian business consistently making money for its shareholders including the government. The same cannot be said of our own airline which, like all citizens, I would like to see grow and become an industry leader. But my opinion is that this can only be done if it focuses on the problems within itself.

I don’t know why we complain yet 90% of Kenyans would steal and do steal given the opportunity.

I’d love to hear what frequent travellers say about the travelling experience with KQ vis a vis other airlines.

Flown KQ a couple of times. The Dreamliner, impressive. Service was good. KQ beats any American airliner anytime. Qatar, Emirates are in a class of their own. First amongst equals. Followed by the likes of Lufthansa, Swiss, Virgin. BA is not as impressive as in the past. Haven’t flown the Asian carriers, heard Singapore is amongst the best.

What terms are you comparing KQ and AA? Food? Punctuality? AA or Delta on domestic flights just give you a snack. Which is expected btw. On international they give you a meal or two depending on the distance. The food is decent. Emirates and Qatar food is decent as well. So is BA and the rest of the Europeans. In terms of punctuality AA, Emirates and Qatar, the Europeans are really good. But this is standard.
But if you want good service, fly first class then utajua haujui.

Transatlantic. Obviously KQ, NBO to Europe on their prestige routes like London, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome. And I’m talking business class and above.
