This is what is happening to our Rugby players

If rugger does not pay, quit it.

The only people in Kenya who can live comfortably off sports are the long distance runners, but they are an elite few.

Others are wadosi wa mafederation, club officials na ministry officials, but stealing is not a sport.

Alisahau kulipa

Pesa ya pocket alimpa kunguru

Hawa vijana wahame ngong rd wakuje waishi huku kawangware na sisi…the cartel that is kenya rugby won’t help them.
I know they deserve better pay lakini waache lifestyles hawawezani huko ngong rd na langata rd…the thing with rugby is that you meet so many well off players…who are obviously from affluent backgrounds…those ones can afford those lifestyles…Sasa wewe umetoka vihiga high na kakamega high unakazana na lifestyles za hao mababi ati kuaribu meza na slayqueens pale clubhouse.
Great thing about kenyan rugby though is the networking…the likes of Auka and other old boys always do get these boys some entry level jobs hapa Nairobi as they play pale ngong rd.

KRU is a cartel of Nairobi clubs officials. Its a business where focus isn’t the players but the officials. I’m not going to blame Gangla directly now since he inherited KRU from our elder Richard Omwela deep in debt. Amazing despite the sportspesa funds. However Gangla elections showed the underhand control of KRU by Nairobi rugby clubs officials. Shasha mutai was winning until they met for overnight choma with drinks and all the votes went one way. This rugby players are owed a lot of money. 6 months. Technical staff have up to 9 months. Officials should also show solidarity with players and deny themselves salaries and allowance until others are paid. Yes there are a lot of blame to go around. Players strike in Paris 7’s should have been directed at KRU not sponsors. They had paid KRU. CS Balala is always too emotional during such crisis and he pulled out the magical Kenya sponsorship. KRU lied to players for 3 months leading to that protest. So now what’s the way forward. CS Amina met the new KRU board and a few things were agreed. Ministry will fund KRU teams and programs but they have to show proof its going to the intended purpose. They await the sports funds to be operational as required by law. For now KRU needs to fund players the best way they can. They are being paid by Bidco and others. That should help the current crisis as they await government.

the sportpesa sponsorship really helped, as did virgin and kq.
however, though, when sportpesa came through, UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUWII didn’t the rugby union become arrogant!!!
even things other sponsors were doing exclusively, sportpesa was doing. from filming games to making tv shows.
bamba tv signed 35m a year contract and i am sure they’re about to pull out because they’re filming games in certain locations only so they’re not getting real value for cash.

mnapenda raha na majina kubwa kubwa na sifa za watu. If something does not pay why do it? io time mnaharibu nani atawacompensate? prestige, “i play for the national team”

Sikujua Rugby ni nini hadi we started shining. Sasa what are you saying

It was supposed to pay!
They have contracts that promised a certain rate and the money is being pocketed by officials

The thing killing rugby is ethnicity, corruption and elitism at the official level.
When Mwangi Muthee beat Omwela the first time, he brought in a lot of money/ sponsorship which many officials wanted to get their hands on.
Muthee resigned under pressure and frustration ,Omwela who’d chaired KRFU 2003-2011 with mediocre results, returned because he had a posh accent , was elite and had gone to the “right” schools.

Omwela destroyed everything Muthee had done, he was not able to attract adequate sponsorship so KRFU resorted to pocketing funds meant for the players leading to elite players quitting.
