Three die in nasty accident along Ngong Road

Speed that thrills, kills…a cautionary tale. Slow down to arrive alive.

September 13 2021 - At least three people died after a car they were travelling in lost control and crashed into stalls and traders on Ngong road, police have confirmed.

Earlier reports from the police had indicated that the car was overloaded and seven people died in the accident.

However, Nairobi Police Traffic boss Joshua Omukata told K24 Digital that only three people perished in the grisly road accident. One person died on the spot while two others died while on their way to hospital.

“Two people died on the spot. Both vehicles were going in one direction but one lost control, collided with the second vehicle before it plunged into the furniture stall and exploded,” Omukata said.

The cause of the accident is yet to be established.

The accident which has been described as horrific took place in Pathways area and witnesses said that the driver was overspeeding.

The driver of the saloon car in which the seven were driving lost control and crashed into another vehicle that was being driven in the opposite direction.

It finally plunged into furniture along the busy road before bursting into flames.

Witnesses described the accident as a horror scene and that only one girl was saved.

“The driver lost control and crashed into another vehicle. A few seconds later the car was burning,” said Abraham Kinanga who was near the scene at the time.

Locals who include bodaboda riders worked tirelessly to put off the fire.

David Kimani who is a bodaboda rider accused the driver of driving the car at a very high speed that he was unable to control it hence causing the accident.

“The driver was at a very high speed and efforts to control the car proved futile reason he crashed into the other vehicle before landing,” he said, adding that the scene looked like a horror movie.

This is the recent accident to take place along the road with locals saying that they have witnessed several accidents between Kenol and Racecourse area.

Three days ago, two students from Olympic Primary School were knocked down by a motorbike in the same area. Locals rushed them to hospital.

Kenyan drivers do the shittiest stunts on our roads. You carry seven people in a car then you speed like a dimwit?

Hii Ngong rd from Lenana to Junction is a death trap. I’ve never struggled that much to remain on the road. It needs to be sorted out urgently.
