Toyota hilux

My grandpa(RIP) owned this model made in 1992 no one uses it as of now. I would like to use it regularly problem is it’s fuel consumption. It is a carburetor type. How can I beat it’s consumption it consumes 1 litter for 2 kilometers and a half

You must be having a leaking fuel tank for that kind of consumption

eish consider taking it to a tuner to improve the carburetor’s VE or Volume efficiency

That kind of a vehicle shouldn’t consume that much. before you go buy 15k worth of carburetor, replace sparks and conductors in the distributor, the condenser, and the rotor with good quality ones. Those are usually the problem with a that type of a petrol engine because its drinking too much.
make sure the beast runs smoothly like a car. Have some experienced guy do a little timing adjustment and check the timing chain because its an old vehicle. One of those must be your problems. Kama unajua inspect plugs, start there. a little short with the battery and you will know. Or start the engine and pluck cables off spark plugs one by one ukirudisha(precaution: kama umevaa kiatu chief ama ushke na kakitambaa). The spark plug that does not make the engine stutter or shut down when removed is the problem. An engine with a failed spark can use 3 litres a kilometre.

YN55 is not old

This will be my year’s project… And if I may ask what should be it normal range of fuel consumption?

Depends. I have driven a petrol 1RZ carburetor engine to nanyuki and back on less than 3k fuel.
