Toyota Kluger

I want to get the 2014 Toyota Kluger. Have been scouting the internet and used ones aren’t that expensive. They seem to be rare on our roads except for the old models. It’s a big machine, a seven seater with 270 hp under the bonnet. In addition have heard it’s the most reliable crossover. It’s however very thirsty compared to its rivals and not a proper 4x4. I need someone to shed light on how to import it coz it’s only available in UK and Australia for importation to Kenya as they also drive on the left hand side of the road. Also are parts readily available or even interchangeable with models here.

Check Aussie forums hao ndio no1 importers of used jap vehicles , you will know of any landmines before buying

They are quite rare in Kenya, generally a good durable car. Just that they are very rare especially from YOM 2013 onwards since they are not anymore made for the japan domestic market.

You can also check dubaicars .com site, they have several they source from Australia , also check SA used car pages. Either way before you purchase compare its price/practibility with the very common toyota prado landcruiser, both are 7 seaters,

if the 7 seater option isn’t so much an issue to you, compare it to the lexus Rx450h…

the previous years model parts are very available here, but 2013 onwards, not sure… a mechanic,at autofit yaya, had once advised me to get it, but later he told me to also check the prado tx/tz etc series or the RX450h Lexus from his experience with parts and such… especially after one unit yom 2014 came to their garage and stayed for 5 weeks waiting for some bumper accessories.

Intrested in the same looks like a really good deal but my worry is with that 3500cc engine kra import duty might kill (and it’s actually not on KRA website, how does one estimate the import duty) and fuel

3500cc while Prado TX is 2700cc?

Yes it’s a 3500 cc petrol, yet less luxurious compared to the prado,i think that’s why everyone avoids them locally,

Hopefully it’s not going to be your primary use car?.. Those rare cars on our roads usually take a long time before parts start becoming available… And when they are available they cost an arm and a leg… so you might find yourself parking it for extended periods over very minor things… Luckily Toyota labda utapata ina interchange with another model… at least the mechanical aspects…

BTW it is called Toyota Highlander, that cocky Kluger name is for Japanese market

I am seeing alot of these RX450h hybrid vehicles. I hope the batteries ziko sawa.

They are rare in Africa coz they are only produced in US known and Highlander then right hand drives shipped to Australia zinaitwa Kluger. Ni very reliable by the way and have topped reliability rankings for almost a decade. Basically the most reliable crossover in both US and Australia. There is a GX trim very luxurious. I think the reason they are rare here in fuel consumption coz they are only available in Petrol v6 3.5l which can on do btn 8 - 9 km/l. But very powerful at 270hp and speed is ok for their size. Acceleration 0 to 100km ni 8.3s fastest among its class. They come with AWD hence not very good for offroader but will get you out of tricky spots. Na most trims have either 7 or 8 seats for newer versions

Not sure how to import them from Australia. Not sure if there are importers of Aussie cars in Kenya coz haven’t come across any

Msito Scotty says you should RUN. Kluger=Highlander
