Crystal Palace have turned their attention to Eliaquim Mangala in their desperate bid to land a new central defender before tonight’s deadline.

Palace made a £23m move for the Manchester City defender after hitting a wall in their attempts to land Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool.

Eliaquim Mangala, who is the subject of a bid from Crystal Palace, is also a target of West Bromwich Albion, who will only let Jonny Evans leave if they have a replacement, and Mangala is their preferred candidate.

With City looking to sign Evans and the Northern Ireland defender keen to move to the Etihad Stadium, that deal would appear straight forward.

However, it is complicated by Mangala indicating he would prefer a move to Inter Milan and the likelihood of that has increased since Inter's move for Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi broke down.

Mustafi's representatives also held talks with Juventus, only for the Italians to sign his Germany team-mate Benedikt Howedes on loan from Schalke.

Mustafi will therefore stay at Arsenal - a situation that suits neither him nor them - and that means the Gunners dropping their own interest in Evans, who is also a target for Leicester City.

Meanwhile, aside from the unchanged Alexis Sanchez situation, the only significant departure from Arsenal is set to see striker Lucas Perez leave just a year after joining from Deportivo la Coruna.

Isn't this the same Evans that United released some time back? Why the sudden interest in him from the big clubs?

Mustafi is a German international. the reason he seems substandard at arsenal is the coaching. wenger is pathetic.
I remember when Steve Bould was made assistant, he appeared on the touchline gesturing at players and was incharge of defending. it made us start with 2 clean sheets. by the third game, he was back on the seats. the french cunt had seen how fans were warming up to Bould's methods. but alas, the emirates can only have one king
