After kumaliza collage back in 2010, I headed directly to settle with a Fren along Thka rd near KCA university. I stayed for a month and secured a mandatory Internship as required by our institute so that I can be allowed to graduate in Nov the same yr.
The most unfortunate thing was that most guys I schooled with went directly into entry jobs while I got an absorption as an intern. Most guys laughed at me kwamba nimelalia masikio, some advising me to quit nikasake job. Nilivumilia na kumaliza the three months attachment and volunteered for an extra month atleast nione kama nitaget job in the same place. Our offices were along Mombasa rd so I switched between two vehicles daily. From survey to town. Then from town to Mbs rd near Sameer.
Regretably, the company I worked with changed its HR manager. A very contemplative, serious, strict and a no nonsense lady took over. Any attachee who worked for over three months alikula kalamu like any other salaried employee esp those who came to joyride in the offices. It was a norm that the same campany recruited most attachees and gave them jobs afterwards.
My hopes to get a good job in the same company died right there. I went back to job hunting, kutafuta place ya kuvolunteer or any other related field, all to no avail.
One day, I left the house with a bunch of A4 envelopes heading to drop each in different offices in town. I wore my beautiful white longsleeved shirt, a black official trouser and a brand new sharpshooter. Sparkling clean, well ironed and bright shining shoe. My relatively tall height that matched this outfit made me look like a banker. While in town going to drop my CVs i met this great longtime friend from shaggs near commercial, tukaingia Club Fulani inaitwa Geeks pale Odeon, grabbed some drinks tukibonga kiasi. By then this guy had already graduated from JKUAT and from appearance alikuwa anakaa ako poa. Its like he had a well paying hustle. Tukibonga kiasi ndio nikamuuliza what’s this job he does anilink up pia coz nko mtaani tu jobless na nko na papers. Nimehustle job sana, CV zangu zimejaa kila office nrb na bado sipati replies. He laughed at me na kunishow nisipochange sipati ng’o. “Utatembea hii nrb my fren until that beautiful sharpie gets stuck some kokotos in its heel.” Aki I felt pissed off. Unaona ni kama wale watu wanakutakianga tu mabaya. I even thought ni kiwaru ako nayo. Coz ya vile nilivaa.
The guy told me that alipomaliza uni alitafuta job for more than 2years hakupata. Kabla achanukie rada ya maisha ndio alilearn afadhali kusaka pesa kuliko job. That’s the main advice niliget kwake. It was true that kutafuta pesa bora kuliko kazi coz hautabagua ile job utaget. Borake pesa iingie Kwa mfuko.
To cut that off nikamshow basi anionyeshe kutafuta pesa. He gave me a date to meet him at Donholm some three days later at exactly 6am. Tukaachana town hata sikutaka ajue naishi nahuko Mathare Area4. It would embarrass me akiskia nakaa karibu na ghetto za slums. But Mathare A4 is a nice place.
Due date nikaamka mapema and before six I was at Donholm. I used the outerring rd. Met my friend plus another drunk(that early) guy offloading some gas cylinders from a pick up. I helped them carry and arrange them in a kastore behind the shops. He had a small kashop near Caltex.
The job was simple. Wait for the customer. Some would come at the shop while others would call. Sell gas to them then deliver to their houses. Some could come with their empty cylinders and ease my work. Others needed to purchase some new ones. First day till evening all was ok. " Umeonaje hiyo job?
I told him iko sawa. Its not bad. Akanipea mia tatu plus fare nikaenda home.
The nxt day I woke up at 5thate and made that a routine. Within five months of working with the guy I swear I had known all the bizz tactics plus mashimo(depots) za kurefill. Nikakuwa pro. Kuiva tena kwa sana.
The biss was gud and we had managed to open other six outlets in different places. I was the manager. We had branches at Buru, kayole, Umoja, Pipeline, Tassia, na mutidwa… Each could fetch a profit of over 3k a day. The guy was so nice and we worked as brothers. I was in control of each penny. Within six months the guy had purchased a brand new Isuzu canter. Bizz was gud.
Happily I found a job advert from the company I worked with as an intern and secured a job. I left the guy manage his biz by himself. Sometimes i could help him in the evenings nikitoka job mapema. I loved the bizz. It became my hobby. Over the weekends we could work half a day with him then go watch futa. Tukijirudishia shukrani.
