A second-year student at Moi University was yesterday stabbed to death by her former boyfriend near the KPA campus in Eldoret over a love triangle.
The boyfriend, Abraham Cheruiyot, was then lynched by students who rushed to the scene when the girlfriend screamed for help.
Eldoret West police boss Smollets Munyanzi said the attacker, a student at a local university, stabbed Cecilia Chebet with a kitchen knife in the women’s hostel.
He is said to have found her with two friends, locked the house from inside, and stabbed her several times.
Speaking to the press in his office, Munyanzi said Chebet was staying in a rented house.
He said she was with her niece and a friend when the former boyfriend stormed the house at 8pm.
Munyanzi said the attacker gave Chebet’s niece Sh6,000, money he said was for his burial expenses.
Students said the boyfriend called his mother earlier and told her she would find him in the mortuary.
''The screams from the niece and the woman’s friend attracted other students to the scene. They broke into the house and found the lady was badly injured. They descended on the attacker with beatings and killed him on the spot," Munyanzi said.
The bodies were taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
