usb-type-c-4395.jpg It is much smaller than the common USB connectors we use (type-A). It is about the same size as a current micro-USB connector, and it can handle device charging as well as 10 Gbps data transfer rates.

It is symmetrical unlike the common USB connectors. The reversible design means you’ll be able to connect a Type-C cable without worrying about the plug’s orientation or the cable’s direction (there’s no “right way up”)

It has support for USB 3.1 and thus the data transfer speed of over 10 Gbps. usb-31-type-c-1.jpg usb-31-type-c.JPG usb-type-c-4386.jpgConnector 575px.png

does anyone know the data transfer speeds on usb type c? anything like thunderbolt?
thats what you think but nope. Watch the video there are benchmarks there.
Thunderbolt is way faster than USB 3.1 but is very expensive. Thunderbolt is good for connecting many peripherals to the same port, including a monitor and even charging them but USB TYPE-C goes a notch higher, being able to even charge the laptop.
