The recent activism on black lives matter has seen old wounds reopen. This has caught my eye and after reading about him my jaw dropped. The world appears to have been messed up. From fascist, nazis, white supremacists, Arab slave owners. Leopold II has stunned me yet. What he did to Congo, our almost neighbours has astounded me.

Leopold massacred us yet you dont see it in our “history books”, the germans also massacred the Herero and Namaqua people of Namibia one hundred years ago yet no one speaks about it. Are we children of a lesser God???
You are doing the right thing by stating it here. It is our schoool curriculum that was fuc.ked up. Why should we read about Shakespeare and Roman History, and yet cloud out our own.
What the Belgians and Germans did to Africans should rightfully be classified as genocide. Yet it took a long time and a lot of armtwisting for the Germans to grudgingly apologize to Namibia.

I read Adam Hoschild’s King Leopold’s Ghost as a teenager I could not sleep for weeks. I cried tears.

African history is poorly taught in Africa considering this monster was not mentioned even in passing whole we recited kings of England and unnecessary details on WW2.
Generations of Africans are taught white supremacy and self hate as history - in African schools 60 years after independence.

Germany paid billions in restitution to Jews for the Holocaust yet they refused to even offer a verbal apology to Namibia their very first Holocaust.
It’s illegal to deny Jewish Holocaust in Germany yet they won’t acknowledge the Herero Genocide.

The real reason black people are discriminated all over the world is not because of our color. It is because of a historical lack of respect. for our continent This lack of respect has been perpetuated in narratives of the black person since time immemorial to facilitate exploitation. But most of it is a result of the fact that we have failed as a people to unite and make our systems work. Notable exceptions to this generalization are Botswana and lately Rwanda.
We cannot be respected if we treat each other like sh.it, cannot adequately feed ourselves, worship corruption and tolerate grand theft. Of course the racism against blacks by sections of white American society is driven also by gut wrenching hate that would easily boil over to extermination if it was not for the checks by the other more compassionate half and by stringent laws. The cold and expressionless face of that cop as he drained the life out of George Floyd is an encapsulation of this hate.
It’s a shame but part of the problem is with us, we need to love ourselves as Africans, we’ve been taught to hate our fellow brothers, our skin, our hair our traditions, languages even our eye color.We need to rise up as Africans and unite. Like Bob Marley once said “Africa unite, unite for the benefit of your people”
I know right know the Bill Gates and his ilk have just realized how powerful the human mind is. They thought it was going to be easy.
