What are these business ideas you think can work while you are still working full time kwa muhindi?
Some people opine that growing a business is difficult particularly if your physical presence lacking. An exception is if you are offering consulting services on the side- not sure whether this can be classified as a business?
Let’s share our experiences…
How much did you invest?
What made you consider the business?
Did it work?
What lessons did you learn?
Biashara ziko kiboko utachapwa na thieving employees only your determination will help you so usiogope kuanza start you will even start getting more than mshahara ya muhindi but don’t change your status ishi nikama unaripwo na muhindi utafaulu
This is what has destroyed the online marketplace. Online vending has to be a full time job. Has to be.
Any other way and vendors start to cut corners to fulfill orders if they’re ever fulfilled.
You post an X brand of black earphones with photos lifted from the Amazon, but you send someone else to fulfill the order and they deliver a white Chinese knock-off, and when the client is dissatisfied unawatusi/unawadimiss like it’s their fault.
As you grow older you get smarter through experience and education.
One thing I learned is that if you are in some type of formal employment, it is easier and smarter to put in more hours and get paid overtime, instead of starting a new business.
If you are an entrepreneur, it is easier to open a new branch or expand the current business than diversify into an entirely new business e.g kama una fast food usifungue butchery/duka ya gas etc.
Doing more of what you already know is the path of least resistance because you already have an edge (experience and expertise).
REASON: It takes 10000 hours to be competent at something. That’s why people hardly succeed in side hustles that are unrelated to their main hustle.
Every new business is like an infant , you just have to be there full time the 1st years , you can’t have ur cake and eat it . You have to decide to take the plunge into entrepreneurship or just stick to employment , otherwise you will just be wasting your money dipping ur toes everytime with some scheme that will leave you broke and frustrated . The only 2 things I can think of you can do and still stay employed :
1: buying land and trying to sell it ( you can wait years trying to sell some plot)
2: Importing a car and selling it with a markup
T bills for short term investments, T bond kama unatafuta retirement plan. you could also invest in a Sacco. Majority have about 10% interest rates on savings and about 17-20% dividend rates on share capital. Quite decent returns for an investment that does not require your time, or skills. Plus your principal is always guaranteed if/when you want to call it quits.
Makes a lot of sense. I have this uncle, very entrepreneurial and has a killer instinct when it comes to business. But overall, he barely makes any money as he’s spread too thin; ako na a village petrol station, two general shops, photocopy biz, small scale farming and keeps goats.
