Village Devs.......saidieni dummy

I know we’ve got so many self taught devs here…in reference to my earlier post hapo August …niliomba advise on what I should learn niwese kunukisha kitunguu in future …most guys advised me to go the JavaScript way and nikachagua Vuejs and three months later now am here and so far I’ve familiarized with UI/UX ,firebase and little of nodejs…I still feel I should go back to java niivishe back end na spring hivi…

Right now am in the middle of a vue+firebase ka project kadogo to prove nmeshikanisha …and later on I need to create a kapotfolio hivi to act as my CV…

Now my question is here people… How do I know when to look for a job …hata ka ni intern ndio niwese kuivisha skills in a team??

Nikimaliza hii project ya js I’ll be having two working projects one in java and the other in js…guys how can I join a team at least ni learn more and more…ama should I first finish spring which might take me another 4-5 months to learn and create a web app which I’ll combine the vuejs front end skills…

Nisaidieni kujua how to know if am good enough but most importantly kupata intern ndio ni learn.

Kuja nikupee project ya kuniambia which kunguru al F next, her GPS,namba,maShiro days etaletal

Tafuta Internship ama apply Andela Fellowship ukitoka hapo utakuwa professional.

Utangoka nywele huko andela. Esp ukifika code defence…bro sijawai waambia ile cohort nilikuwa tulianza wasee 200 by day six ya boot camp we were 18heads left.
I quit coz I got greener pastures but joh…code defence watu walikuwa wanalia…Hadi wanaume…Kuna mjamaa aliktoka TZ in his 40s the guy cried nikamhurumia…ANDELA is not for the faint hearted

Thanks for your response… Chekini dm

mbona wanalia sana? do those people work on real projects?

How is Rongai ?

Mostly ninstage fright and then the questions one gets from the panel are so tough they make u question ur logic for the code. Yes after you get inducted then u begin working on real projects for Microsoft or Google or Facebook

were you self taught first before joining andela?

Yep straight outta University of YouTube and pale udemy

wewe ni ninja mtrue basi.Mimi kujisomea kwanza na YouTube distractions sitanimarisa.

kua ukilink projects zako na kitu kama LinkedIn profile yako pia, offers zingine hua zinatokea hapo

Kiaje …is it like a normal portfolio

hapo kwa profile kuna place ya ‘add projects’ /accomplishments that way potential employer akiona profile yako atleast they will see your skills

Andela is too ambitious for now. Build the portfolio and do some freelance projects to gain some experience. Later on an internship can do. If interested ou can also reach out to consult at my devshop. Got a couple of interesting projects in the pipeline.

Don’t look for a job, look for experience. There’s plenty of it on github open source projects. Want to work on a team?..work with an international team remotely and build a world class portfolio.
Get 10 of your personal projects into production and contribute on 10 open source projects. By the time you are done with this, you’ll be a world class developer capable of applying to world class companies like google e.t.c.
Don’t waste time on a local tech internship.

Thanks Thanksfor your advise mzito…with me I felt like its right if I could get an internship so that I can familiarize myself and also pia kitunguu bana ikanuka sio mbaya

Learning without having a time based task that you have been tasked to do can be hard.
You can also visit iHub and get to interact with other developers there.
Those are the places where one gets experience.
Also, get to talk to friends and join whatsapp or tgram groups of local developers as they will give you the contacts you need for internship.

i would advice sticking to one thing first , if umeamua javascript ivisha io , hio time you are to use learning java use it on javascript , get more skills on javascript backend …check node js once you know the 1, 2 3 choose a framework , learn database sana sana relational like mysql …Also lean by doing , make something sio kufwata tutorial and copy pasting code , …make ka small school system/hospital system/ or any other system while learning , be active on github too hapo ndio cv ya developer huwa

Looking for internships without academic credentials kwanza huku ni tricky. However, you can take advantage of the many online job opportunities to get as much experience as possible. Then create that online portofolio with samples of your work. Also find and pick an area of specialization. Kama umeamua ni UI/UX, ivisha kwanza. Javascript and Java are two different monsters. Learn the different web frameworks available. Become a Jack of all trades particularly in your area of specialization.
