Wakulima tunaumia

The price of milk has dropped but even with plenty of maize the cost of feeds remain high and also there is cheap milk coming from Uganda, same and even worse is happening with poultry farmers. According to me here is where the problem is but acha watu was jubilee development wafike wa twist the story.

Yoweri Museveni is gloating on his Facebook page that for the first time in 55 years, Uganda has exported more to Kenya for a continuous period of three months. ( you can check his page)

Well, as much as I’m pained, that is the sad reality.
Economic Policies in the past five years have actually made Kenya lose its economic shine.

First, Taxation - like I pointed out in 2016, if you increase taxation, human nature tends to look for alternative sources. Shoes, Clothes and other fabrics are 50% cheaper in Uganda, than in Kenya. This has led to an increase of Kampala bound businessmen and women.
Motor Vehicle sales have more than doubled in Uganda after our clueless Treasury CS increased tax on imported Vehicles. Just go to the Coast Bus Terminal and check out registration of all the new buses since 2017. You will discover that 90% of new Buses have Ugandan Registration. Why? It makes no sense to have a Kenyan Registered Bus, if it will cost you 2 or 3 million more. The result? KRA loses.
As I have been explaining several times, if you want a cool Luxury Vehicle at half the price, just go to Kampala and buy one, and pay some little tax at the border. You will enjoy luxury… In any case, they are all imported from Japan.

Second, Agriculture: Fertilizer and insecticide business in Kenya is controlled by a cartel. As a result, the cost of production in Kenya is double that of Uganda.
That is why Maize is cheaper in Uganda compared to Kenya. We are therefore forced to import. Same to Eggs. We are forced to import eggs since the cost of chicken feed is double in Kenya.

I could go on and on.
But my point is this, our National Pride should drive us to hate corruption and incompetence. Otherwise everyone will be gloating over us, like Museveni has started.
End of whining according to @FieldMarshal CouchP

Itabidi kila mtu ajipange. But I don’t mind hio pesa ikienda Uganda, they have bought a lot of things from Kenya over the years.

Since when did mungiki adherants become farmers or productive members of the society?mbari ya turia nime!

Uganda has heavily subsidized its agricultural sector,…for instance Poultry, hata wakiuza a tray at ksh200, they are still making profits, reason is that the cost of production is very low, its very hard for us huku kenya to compete with them, where kama unauza tray at less than ksh270, u’ll be making a loss…

Innovate or perish. That’s just how it is. But Uhuru really has bad policies on building the Kenyan economy. He is crippling the same Kenyans he is taxing to death. Fish from China, eggs from Uganda, onions from Tanzania, maize from Mexico, sugar from Arabs

Economic policies in 254 are fucked up.
What will get us out of quagmire?

Nimesema mara kwa mara Kenyans needs re-education on matters business, you cannot grow and evolve (these should be the principal aims in every enterprise) if you are sorely lacking in technical capacity and managerial expertise, even in a perfect environment where there are favourable government policies and support, you would still fail.

It is time for Kenyans to go out of their way to seek re-educate themselves, GOK won’t do it, jipangeni.

The reason why Kenya is doing bad economically elected used cartridges to lead us

Kenyans are funny, they will cut a branch while sitting on it, and when they fall they start asking dump questions…
The extra taxes Kenyans are being killed with are to fuel corruption and wastage of funds launching dubious projects and oiling politicians pockets.

The solution was to vote Jubilee govt out in 2017… that alone would have made a statement.
Next eliminate most wastage and lower taxes, have policies to spur more production and export…

But wapi, Kenyan peasants who are the majority voters don’t know yet how to separate between THEIR PROBLEMS and POLITICIANS PROBLEMS…
They don’t know the big difference …
They will be happy to see Baba and Uhuru dancing and calling each other “my brother”, yet the peasant goes home to face joblessness and hunger…

mimi na plan kuhama this cursed country

I fear this is the satisfaction of many. I have said it before and will say again, This country is deep in the toilet and a flush away from the sewers.

In September 2014, Kenya effectively joined the ranks of middle-income countries. But now, the current economic status in the country is proving to be a ticking time bomb hata kama some overly optimistic quarters predict that “growth is expected to remain strong this year, thanks to solid domestic demand.” (sic!)

Yes, Solid domestic demand iko but at the same time you are feeding it with imported supplies. Hadi mayai!!

Kenya’s poverty index remains high and the country has still the highest number of slums in Africa. In fact, almost 20 million Kenyans, about 42 percent of the population, live on less than a dollar in a day. But these are the same people whose efforts we are squashing, wakulima wadogo, who can’t find market to sell their Juakali merchandise, backyard veggies and reared animal products locally just because some uninformed leaders somewhere decided trade between countries was more important than local trade.
Tukiendelea hivi, the future of medium- to long-term outlook of our economy is very dim. Tutapitwa na nchi ka Ghana, Ethiopia na Tunisia

very sad… you have laid it bare

I said it earlier here, @teamtalk had a thread on the same issue i.e our exchange is overrated. This is why Ugandans and South Africans have been able to gain easy entry to our market. In Wangige eggs are selling at 150kshs per tray, milk at farm gate is trading at 25kshs. Probably, a recess is the only way to get back on track.

We clearly don’t have a president

why can’t the damned farmers relocate to uganda ama watoe feeds huko?

Opposition is there to keep government in check. They may have gone overboard with their methods but that is not the reason we are suffering. Jubilee has been more concerned about appearance over social welfare. Recently, the Kenya flower council and trade minister announced good results but those results are not being felt at grassroot level.

Brilliant. By now we should be bringing n fertiliser and animal feeds from UG to KE in trailers. Free trade, sindio?

How can a tray of UG eggs be 150 at Wangige yet locals are selling at 240 a tray minimum? UG milk at 42 per 500ml and brookside is 55? Maize is 1200 per 90kg bag while in KE it is more than 2500? If the problems is inputs, let us import from UG. Or lease farms in UG. Huko Soroti.
