It all narrows down to who pays tax and who has perfected tax evasion. Anyone who runs a liquor shop or a bar will tell you the nightmare they had when KRA officials knocks on your door claiming your duty stamps are FAKE.
When this guys visit your area chances are that those companies that don't pay tax will call you telling you to hide their product. Surprisingly the 4 giant companies (UDV, KWAL,ASL and LDK) whose duty stamps are genuine are never worried about KRA.
You do realise this companies have no cheap brands priced below 100 Bob????? Yet you can easily note that most of this "2 nd generation" brands have a retail price of 100 bob and a wholesale price ranging from 40-100 kshs.
Anyone keen enough will tell you that each of the 4 giants has issued a new pricelist since 1st July following tax increase in the budget. But then how can they increase their prices following tax increase and let the small competing companies that dont pay tax continue operating??? Easy. Kamwana is owned by the cooperates. They funded him. The police could not help in the crackdown. Kebs issued them with licenses hence could not help much. Kra has been unable to cub illegal brews.
So what was the Option??? Tell the public to help with the crack down. Destroy all illegal brands and even burn these factories to maim the manufacturers completely.
Its for the same reasons we had them raid Eastleigh in the name of fighting terrorism yet it was clear the businesses taking place there were not paying tax.........Hence they had to be done away with!
