Tafuta API classification . Kama Gari Ni ya Diesel itakuwa CD, CF, CG, CH , CI etc . The higher the better. Kama Ni ya petrol itakuwa SL,SM , SN etc the higher the better.

I don’t think there is much difference between SAE’s ( 15w-40(shell) and 20w-50) to make engine knock. That must be something else. I have a lawnmower that instead of using motor oil, I use sae 5w-30(ya magari). That little thing has served me 6 yrs . Maybe lack of timely oil change messed up your car.

Zote Mbili ni API SL . They have same API classification for a petrol engine therefore little difference between the two . They are multigrades - Maybe you could try going higher to a synthetic product . Both companies offer synthetic engine oils for a few shillings above the price of the multi grade . Try the Total 5w40 .

Refer to owner manual or use 5W 30/40 from Shell.
Run vehicle relatively hard for 3k kms then do oil & Oil filter change.
Inspect oil filter for metal filings and sludge during change.

the first componet of that grade (15w, 20w, etc) is viscousity grade during winter and engine is cold and therefore not too important in tropics as long as the number isnt too big like 60. the final figure is viscousity grade when the engine is hot in any region. The larger that last number is, the thicker the oil will be when engine is hot. If your engine has no issues and run smooth and quiet 30 is the middle ground. If your engine is old and tappet is already noisy, “whatever”-40 is probably good. if you have a good engine and a lot of money use 20 because it will give you good power but must be changed very often. There is a chance you could damage your engine with anything below 20 because its tool light when hot but works for racing.

The first one is mineral oil that lasts strictly between 4000 and 5000km. Its also too heavy when hot and engine will definitely wear. the second one is a multigrade oil and is safe but not the best anyway. 10w30 or 5w30 would have been the best but its very expensive when sold at petrol station. shell w30 five litres Goes for ksh6000 and they dont stock it too much because it doesnt sell. Toyota sells its imported 5w30 at ksh 1850 for four litres in a tin can.
