What Foreigners Think About Africa

#61
African civilizations are relevant to us. And knowledge is always important. When the white man came, he triumphed over us because he understood our position. He knew exactly where on the map we were, the kind of resources we were sitting on, how much more land we had compared to them, how much our weather differed from theirs, how we were socially and politically organized. Sisi tulidhani yeye ametoka binguni. With little to no curiosity.
Ignorance is a bad thing stop praising it people.
You're right, this my exact sentiments. We cannot sit here pretending we don't care about the world yet the rest of the world is interested with us...

Yours got to do with inferiority complex and some naivety man. In fact your Roosevelt footage of Kenya further exposes their ignorance of the African continent as it labels the people they came across in the British East African colony as Zulu which is totally wrong as it should be Maasai or any other Kenyan community.
Fact is most of them(but not all) are very ignorant of the outside world and make annoying assumptions of our continent.

My first time conversing with a Chineese client (in real estate)went like this.
Xiau: You! Me! Nailobi! Wala wala! Hotel! 200 dollars!Come tomollow!

Me: Mbwa koko wewe!
( and then we both laughed heartily after that)
Hahaha
My friend was being hit on by one so he offered to buy us lunch, guy couldn't even say chicken so he flapped' ' his arms to say he wanted chicken, then he asked her if they could go to Hurlingam,
Ati: finish ,(eating sign) then go halinga? .my friend couldn't understand a thing, so she asked me 'huyu macho ndogo anasema nini' after about five minutes of consultation we figured out he was asking her to go with him to Hurlingam

Americans in big cities are more exposed due them being in a cosmopolitan area vs in smaller rural inner cities , just like Nairobi people are more exposed and cosmopolitan vs a place like Lodwar.

So today, I was skyping with this new American client and this guys seem to think that Africa is one big nation. He knows that I am from Kenya and he asks "Hey, I got a friend in Namibia, you know him?". At first, he couldn't believe that I am skyping from Africa (it is his first time) because he was referred by his friends. It's like they think that Africa is one big nation with starving people with flies in their mouth. Most cant even name five countries in Africa. I now understand why they called it a dark continent because they knew mostly nothing about it.
Can't blame him. We have our own ignorance as well. One time I'm in Isiolo expecting a parcel from Nbi and the guy in Nbi casually mentions 'nilituma hapo Garissa enda tu uchukue'. To him, it's just next door, a walking distance.

Yet kuna degree in African studies, kiswahili is taught kule America alafu mnasema education system yao focuses on America only.

Kuna student exchange programs na wengi wao huja Africa hadi time za internships.

None of the education systems are bad. Our is designed to train a person in several fields to save on cost, facilities and the teachers because one class will have more students. If everyone took a specialized class, the implication is that one teacher will have fewer students leading to a demand for more teachers, hence driving up the cost of education per person. Let me give an analogy; Instead of specialising in surgery straight out of high school, in Kenya you'll have to be a general practitioner before you become a surgeon.

Sometimes you can think when you don't want to be stupid.
Those calling Americans dumb should know that it's the result of their education system. It teaches them what's relevant to them in their lives. What did studying about wheat growing in the Canadian prairies help me achieve in life?
They aren't taught about your stupid continent coz it's of no relevance to them.
Being in school meant it had to accommodate everybody's possible interests otherwise since you knew what's good for you,you could have dropped out and did whatever you thought could help you achieve in life.

How can we say America is ignorant yet it's that one country that is culturally diverse.

Stereotyping is well part of humor and everybody does it.

I think @M2Random is lying to stir up a debate.
