The only thing I like in BBI is the fact that Nairobi City county will be scrapped and given the status as a capital territory. This will enable the holding of that would be incompetent leaders/managers of the city to be appointed to account because they can be easily sacked should the people complain. This is a far cry from the current system whereby we have to suffer from the incompetence of Sonko for a whole 5 years.

Some people never learn. The current constitution was drafted and supported by political leaders then because all expected they would be the 4th President. The drafters made sure the opposition leader position didn’t exist. They got rid of a rival position not knowing thats the best seat they could have gotten.
Those who drafted this change from elected governor of Nairobi to a puppet appointee aren’t thinking what’s best for Kenyans. BBI drafters have not lied to anyone that they care for the public. They don’t and for once I’m happy politicians are honest with the public. Those pushing for this have their own puppet already lined up for the job as Governor, DG, CEC’s and all the tenders they will control as puppeteer. PK has already being picked. However history is cruel, they will then spend 5 years complaining that DP Uncle Ruto appointed Spear to head Nairobi from the same laws they passed themselves. They will then say that law is now bad for obvious reasons.
BBI drafters brief is to change the current constitution to add more positions at the top. Secondly they hope those new posts will be convincing enough to get the President interested to shift for one of those positions, preference is PM though so far he is not interested. Even he knows its a stupid move that cant be sold to the public. President Uhuru staying in power is not an emergency to him, its an emergency to his family business and various appointees at his office who can’t comprehend going home in 2 years.
RAT hopes its his way out of retirement, even his ambiguous role in handcheque government is not enough or close to his junior PM role he once tested. He wants more and nothing less than the Presidency.
The problem or benefit depending on your position is that everything is complicated. BBI was to be presented as Parliamentary system and executive PM until UhuRuto met and that changed to the current BBI Bomas draft of Executive President, junior PM appointed by President and executive remains under Presidential system. Well RAT and handcheque team were disappointed while Tanga Tanga movement endorsed BBI draft fully. However the machinations started to try force it back, it started with more staged public participation called BBI rallies. Basically just useless political dick measuring contests with nothing on BBI except the name alone. Everyone positions is known before the process starts so why pretend people views matter. Well it was also to influence the 5 people who ran this country to shift to one position or the other. In this case RAT wanted BBI rally to be us vs them. The only political mantra he knows. It doesn’t matter even if we all say we support this document. We do support it 100% if it this audience but we don’t at all if its another audience. There is also a lot of Harambee house money here so who wouldn’t want free money. Even USAID has thrown its hat in to fund this peace initiative as we see people fighting, abusing and friction called uniting Kenyans. However DP Uncle Ruto stole that thunder without getting involved. Sending his trusted hands to the rallies was brilliant. They spoke well, endured the friction, embarrassment and roho mbaya to win the rival supporters endorsement. Suddenly BBI wasn’t DP Uncle Ruto that, this and we swear to love President Uhuru more than mama Ngina. Now MK and Murkomen start talking about what wananchi must get changes the narrative from politicians retirement to wanjiku needs. In opposition politics that line is almost sacrilegious.
BBI Maa would have been the worst, potentially the start of force land tribal evictions. I’m glad NIS and moderate Maa leaders warning to President Uhuru has been accepted. After today’s UhuRuto meeting and the events of the last week then this BBI rallies might just end. I doubt the next one in Meru will take place.
