What was that kiboko ya Stima?

While growing up in late 1990s, there was news that prisoners would be subjected to kiboko ya Stima. What was this thing? Courts would award a prisoner up to 16 vibokos. I think it may not have been kiboko ya Stima, but why was it so dreaded? Anybody with first hand experience @Abba @ChifuMbitika

It was an electrical cord that you would be beaten with, ulikuwa unachapwa moja mwili unaganda

Ooh. And was it automated or manually operated?

It was manual. There was a guy who during 1982 coup was specifically assigned the role ya kitandika watu with those wired canes . I think his name was Oyugi or something . Tall , dark and ugly humanbeing na alikuwa amestunya(muscled) like crazy.
He was the last person you wanted to cane you incase upelekwe prison .

I thought ni story za mogoka. Ulikuwa Una andikwa kiboko moja Kwa mwezi. Ukipigwa Una lala wiki mbili.

Your narration was also part of the myth, did that person really exist?

mteso acha zako, hii ni story ya base ya busaa. oyugi ni yule jamaa wa airforce alishikwa coz of coup de tat, i think you already. kama hujui kuhusu nyahunyo, kunywa gorogoro ingine moja uende nyumbani, pipi anasubiri wewe

Unajua kusoma ukweli

Before unyoroshwe they usually put hema on your lower back so that the impact does not damage your backbone

I believe Oyugi was the last Kenyan to be nyong’wad. Went to school with his brother, who was the ‘sensei’ (leader) of our Karate Club.

He was called Opiyo

Mwenye alinyongwa was Ochuka bana.Hakuna mtu by the name Oyugi amewai kunyongwa.

Must have been a whip with electric shock. Kuna a distant uncle alikuwa jailbird ambaye alifunguliwa 1992 from Kamiti. It was said that alichapwa moja when being released. The guy allegedly came all the way from Nairobi to shaggz while standing in the matatu coz hangeweza kuketi. And he spent like one month without ever sitting down until he got healed. That thing must have been quite painful.

Opiyo alikuwa karao of the rank of Superintendent, he tortured people at Nyayo house but not in prison, that was left to wardens.

Ndio ata nashangaa hawa watu wanasema nini. Hezekiah Ochuka ndio the last person kunyongwa by law hapa Kenya.

Ogopa opiyo. He made Miguna, Nyongo and other dissidents squeal like little girls at the mere sight of him. I heard his preferred tool of trade is a rusty pliers.
Baba might also have crossed his path in the 80s, his hey days.

I wonder if he is still in service or retired. How has he fared in the multiparty era?

Caning was unnecessary.

Yes

When growing up…Used to see prisoners wakiletwa kukata miti ziwe kuni in minutes but wardens seemed to be friendly…,…
