Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning

May the Lord bless all the souls lost on August 8th 1998, 9/11, Kikambala, Westgate, Mpeketoni, Garissa and in all other attacks that I didn’t mention.

I still get goose bumps whenever I recall the events of that horrible morning- it was surreal. It was a very beautiful day, very good weather in Montgomery County, Maryland (DC suburbs). It was the first few weeks of the Fall semester, therefore I didn’t have much going on. On my way to my 9 o’clock class I decided to stop by the students’ center for a cup of coffee. As soon as I stepped inside the cafeteria, I realized that something bad was going on- there were several tv screens across the dining hall tuned to different stations, and each one of them had some “breaking news” of some kind of accident in NY. There were quite some confusion because no one could really tell exactly what was going on, though it was clear that there was a huge fire (or explosion) in one of the World Trade Center towers. It was bad, really bad. I had been to NY before and I couldn’t imagine the chaos on the streets. All the stations were showing live news and we were all curious to at least know what was going one because some stations were reporting of a possible plane crash. But how could that happen? The weather on the East Coast was all clear.
Several minutes (at least 20) had gone by at this point. I had actually forgotten about my class. One of the CNN cameras was pointed up above the towers, then all of a sudden a huge jet appeared from the side of the screen. There was a helicopter or two flying around, but this was a HUGE plane, and it was flying really fast towards the towers. Sh*t!!! The plane “disappeared” into the other tower! At this point time stopped!! Everyone was just screaming and cussing! I was like, this is really f’ed up! No one could believe what they had just seen. My stomach was just turning, and it felt like a bad dream. Within few minutes there was chaos around campus and people were running around in circles.
Before all this could sink in, people started talking of another crash in DC (many student had family members/parents working in DC). Just before 10 a.m., all media outlets reported the Pentagon attack! Everyone just kept quiet!! It was now apparent that some serious attacks were going on. There was eerie silence. More rumors started about other attacks in DC (which later turned out to be false alarms). There was a feeling of helplessness. One of the most secure buildings in the world had been hit. It was just a really bad feeling. As if that was not bad enough, it was being reported that “several” planes had been hijacked and could not been accounted for. Everyone was just looking up in the skies. Everything was possible at that point, and being close to DC we felt extremely vulnerable. At that point I had enough and I just went home (I had made contact with my family and I knew everyone was ok). I was very lucky because, as soon as I left school, there was minor security lapse at the campus and the whole place was on total lockdown for several hours!
Then one of the towers collapsed! What else could go wrong??? It was incredibly crazy. Then the North Tower collapsed! Unbelievable. At this point we were huddled around the family room, just waiting for the house to blow up (that’s how it felt!). Then another plane crash was reported in Pennsylvania. The rest of the day was spent indoors, in sorrow.

From an engineer’s perspective, what really made those twin towers collapse to the ground. Were the hits from the planes that strong?

Am not an engineer but a “fake” one said that the planes had almost full tank when they hit the towers. All that highly flammable fuel started melting one side of the tower and thus created a weak point that was also carrying load of the upper floors, the result was pancaking of the floors…

True, there have been a lot of speculations. I believe that it could have been a combination of factors. As far as the planes having “full tanks”- not necessarily true (most commercial flights take “just enough” fuel to complete the flight- of course they carry enough for unforeseen incidents), but they normally don’t fill up because of the weight- the extra weight of the fuel would make the plane burn more energy. But, it’s also a fact that these planes were scheduled to fly across the country/continent, therefore they must have had a lot of fuel in them.
I’m sure there are many theories out, but here’s an interesting read:

The world never stopped only their media portrayed that. That was the biggest step towards justifying invasion in different countries.

  1. Pan cake collapsing would not have happened if the hit was on one side of the building…a tilt and front floors would have collapsed at worst.

2 . Jet fuel is not strong enough to melt steel columns- twin towers were built with accident as such in mind.

  1. Explain building seven - no plane hit it,yet it collapsed same way as the twin towers.

4 . Follow the money trail, leasing and insurance claims prior to the “attack”

  1. Detonations and strategic pull methods for downing a building was the blueprint for the collapsed - all required advanced planning and authorizations- who did it and why?

Not literally; but it was a huge impact for 3+ thousand lives to be lost in a day. There was also a huge economic/social impact. Soon after the attack, the FAA grounded all flights and all planes landed at the closest airports- that was a BIG deal. The other part of this attack that made it more devastating was that it played out in real time- most of the events happened on live broadcast, which was traumatic to many. There was extensive coverage and a lot of suspense. It’s one of those things- you’ve got to be there to know it. I was at the Pentagon about a week or two after the attack (the impact area was well cordoned off), but you could still smell “death”- the smell of burning fuel/building was very strong. The damage was quite extensive (I’m still looking through my records to see if i can find a photo).
I’m sure some victims of the Westgate attack feel the same about their experience (and so would other victims of the other attacks).

JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE… some americans get blown up it becomes they day [SIZE=6]“World Stopped Turning” something happens in Africa lets say 500 dead in one day no one gives a shit… dafuuq is up with that shit?

You lost me on point 3. You’ve to keep in mind that it collapsed after almost 7 hours of intense burning. I’m sure the towers look “skinny” on picture- there were pretty big buildings! The magnitude of their collapse was huge- i’m actually surprised that other buildings that I thought would collapse as a result, didn’t.

I totally agree that it was an event that will forever remain vivid in their memories due to its magnitude and the live coverage on their TVs. The cover up that followed did not do any justice to the bereaved.

False flag operation of course. Those three buildings (there’s one that wasn’t hit by any plane) collapsed demolition style. When Bush came to power, there were already advanced plans to attack some countries, described as the ‘axis of evil’. These included oil rich countries like Iran, Iraq and Libya. Others were for strategic purposes, like Afghanistan and Syria (they needed to install friendly regimes that would allow future oil pipelines to pass through their countries, therefore break Russia’s monopoly in Eurasia). That’s why they’re fighting to remove Assad even now. The others were North Korea and Cuba, though those ones were not so high on the priority list.
Anyway, for these countries to be attacked, something spectacular had to happen so as to convince the American public to support the invasions.

That is the whole point, not many people know about the other buildings that collapsed without being hit.

Very true, its called ’ buying support of the people’ they did it through 9/11. For you to properly govern a group of people and herd them towards a common goal, it is important to create a common enemy by all means.

Not quite true. In addition to the NYSE, the London Stock Exchange (and I’m sure several other stock exchanges) closed.
The artist chose those words to imply the global impact (political, social, economic) of the day - most countries around the world were affected in one way or another.
