Who can be called the modern day Alexander the great. And to imagine the guy was conquering the world in his 20's

Alexander never lost a single battle in his life and yes, he died young, but his first major battle under his father was at the age of 16 when he led the Macedonian cavalry against Thebes’ elite infantry, the Sacred Band, arguably the best military unit in Greece at the moment. Such spotless record must account for something. Any comparison with any other military captain has to take his unblemished record of victories with not a single defeat into account.
He was a genius in strategy, able to make quick decisions in the thick of the battle. He was able to snatch victory from the claws of certain defeat, time and again, always against overwhelming enemy superiority in numbers, always in a terrain that his enemies had carefully chosen to maximize heir advantages. Any city he ever attacked he conquered. His own father the great Philip II failed to take Byzantium, and was defeated by Thracian tribesmen, but not Alexander. He made land out of a sea and conquered the island city of Tyre, and he used rock climbers to take the Sogdian Rock, an impregnable citadel that was like an eagle’s nest. He almost killed himself jumping into the Indian city of the Malians alone, a wound which weakened his body and eventually probably contributed to his death.
He was simply FEARLESS! Like the Carthagenian Hannibal, and all ancient Greek military leaders, Miltiades, Epameinondas, Philip, etc, but unlike Napoleon, Genghis Han and others after him, Alexander was always leading from the front line.
His soldiers adored him to death for another reason too: He was always winning decisively, decimating his opponents in battle, with only a handful of losses on his own side. They would follow him blindly knowing not only that victory was theirs, but that very of them would die in battle.
He was a competent manager of an army on the move who was able to keep his army of 40 to 100 thousand men plus horses, plus thousands of auxiliary trades fed and rearmed on the move, even in places such as Afghanistan, which says volumes about his logistics organization. While in India, he received new shields, helmets, and body protection gear for all his army, which ws manufactured in Greece and traveled from Greece to be delivered intact to his soldiers in India without any incident.
He was a brilliant politician and knew what it would take to create a new empire. Defeating the enemy iopn the field of battle was only the beginning. The Greeks were too few compared to other peoples, like Indians, Thracians, Egyptians of Persians. But Greeks were well educated and had proven their worth in battle,. Alexander knew that without the cooperation of the Persians, the Egyptians, the Indian allies and the tribes of Bactria/Afghanistan, etc teh Macedonians could never manage to keep the new empire together. He angered his own Macedonians by adopting Asiatic proskynesis and Persian clothing and “barbarian” customs but he was light years ahead of his time in understanding that you can defeat a state but you have to co-opt the locals into accepting you. The mongols and the Turks did it with terror. He had a culturally tolerant approach. he respected the local religions and customs and elevated the locals to the highest positions. Compare this with how the Nazis treated their own Ukrainian collaborators (they called them “niggers” for not being Germanic) which led to their alienation. Alexander even married a tribal girl, Roxanne, besides marrying two Persian princess, Darius’ daughter Stateira and her cousin Parysatis. In this way he was able to not only win battles but win wars and secure the peace behind him.

Jamaa alinyoroshwa pale India kama ghaseer. Macedonian history states his troops refused to conquer any more territory, that’s why he had to turn back. But other sources claim he was either beaten in India or was locked in a costly stalemate that demoralized his troops. Heneway, whatever the case, his achievements were still legen…wait for it…DARY!!

Still can’t compare to the Great Kublai Khan.

Google Kagame’s military history and you will not be asking such questions in future.

This and Alexander inherited well formed and well trained armies, all they had to do was march
Baba Yao ni Ghengis, guy built an army, and conquered lands as far as Iran, Poland and China

Ghengis Khan was the greatest, he started from scratch.

Alexander the Great will forever remain to be the greatest conqueror of all time. At the age of 20 when his father died, what he went on to achieve can and will never be achieved in the world. The reason why he only conquered the western side of India is because the battle had lasted more than 6 years. The soldiers were demoralized, most missed their families. Some of the soldiers had also been killed. Some kingdoms also realized that instead of fighting with Alexander, it would be better to engage the scorched earth policy and flee. This also dealt a blow to the supplies of Alexander’s troops.
I dont celebrate him though, I prefer celebrating peace makers as opposed to war proponents.

Kublai syphilis ndio ilimsumbua sana na paranoia. great conqueror though. ikuus ndio ilimwangusha saidi

BUT, BUT, BUT, Alexander was WHITE…

I dont think its possible to say who is the greatest among the greats. Genius needs opportunity for it to flourish.

Shaka, Alexander, Mzilikazi, Hannibal, Napoleon, Ceasar were all great men and were each far ahead of their peers in their time.

One man who could have been on this list but never made it is soviet era Marshall Mikhail Tukhachevsky. He is largely responsible for creating the doctrine that made the soviet army be what it became and he was responsible for the creation of armoured units in the Red Army that was able to push back the Nazi Invasion eventually.

He was executed by Stalin in 1937. But, even among Stalins circle, he was thought brilliant. Once he was killed, one of stalins close associates remarked “Tukhachevsky hid Napoleon’s baton in his rucksack.”

If interested you can read about him here:

The only greatness I accept is one that involves good character as well, for that reason I suggest yall read about Umar ibn Khattab. His rule resulted in the spread of islam. Kindly read about him being given the keys to Jerusalem also while at it.
What I can say is the white man has given us what to think as great but there existed many great people whom history has blacked out.

kwa hivo akina @ranjeet hapana mchezo.
hehe anyway indians developed very early, but then they regressed later.

If you never wrote history then you werent great. those that wrote it were greater. it is your duty as a great person/nation/society to write history.

Read the prophesy of Ancient Israel’s prophet Daniel. At certain times, in certain cirmumstances, some people were used as God’s hand of judgement, even against God’s own people who had turned away

Hitler pia was ‘great’, he changed the modern order of the world, only that Jews wrote his history. Who knows what those other ‘great’ men did to change their histories

What about Adolf, pale ujeru.

I agree. Hitler was also a political genius and is probably a figure who completely changed the course of the 20th century and world history.

I have always said here that I thank Mein Fuhrer for starting that war and thank him for loosing it.

But with hitler, practically none of his radical ideas persisted. Its an offence to even fly the Nazi Flag in Germany or deny the holocaust

With people like Napoleon, you have the “Code Napoleon” which forms the basis of law in most European Countries. And he is still worshipped in France and he is a byword for genius.

With Shaka, he created a Zulu identity that persists to this day and his remains the first indegenious African Army to defeat the might of the superpower of the day… Britain at the battle of islandawana despite the technological superiority of the brits.

With tukhachevsky, he created an Army capable of defeating the most powerful army of the the day, the Germans and his work led to the USSR becoming a military superpower

Point is, all these guys I have mentioned left a lasting impression on their countries. Hitler is the only one who is loathed among his people. But I do agree with you in that he was a great man.

Alexander grew up with privilege. He had the best education money could buy, a head start that many military commanders after him had to work for and a domineering parent who constantly fed his ego into thinking he was destined for divinity.

Genghis had things much harder for him. Worked his way up from being a small chief’s son into the most vicious leader the world has ever seen.

Alexander was great but Genghis was greater. Through his grandson Kublai, Genghis created China. Through his descendant, Timurlane, it can be argued that he started India as well via the Mogul Empire.

What about Cecil Rhodes and Queen Victoria they were the founders of the British Empire, which was larger and lasted longer than the Mongol empire
