WHY THRIVE ON POVERTY BABA ?WHY?

Sometime this year, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula publicly made remarks that speared right into the heart of Mount Kenya natives. In broad daylight, and without mincing words, the NASA principal declared that should the coalition ascend to power, its leadership will stop all development projects in Mt Kenya region until “other parts of Kenya catch up”.

The sentiments would later be echoed by Raila Odinga’s running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, who stated that it was time for this. During the August 8 general election, Mount Kenya communities voted out eight out of their 10 governors and 90 percent of MCAs. MPs and other leaders were also not spared, with Kanini Kega, for instance, the only the only legislator re-elected in Nyeri County. The same tsunami swept through the region during the 2013 elections. Voters casting their votes in the August 8 polls. Mount Kenya to lie low.

While a section of their supporters would readily approve of such comments, any insightful Kenyan would want to interrogate the reality, and question the regional political dynamics that stir such bile. A comparison with Nyanza best paints the picture, proving that those who refer to Raila as the “Lord of Poverty” could actually be right.

Picture this. During the August 8 general election, Mount Kenya communities voted out eight out of their 10 governors and 90 percent of MCAs. To the voters, it never mattered whether their leaders were President Uhuru Kenyatta’s most loyal defenders, or whether they funded his campaigns. The only question was whether they delivered on their promises or not.

The president made no attempts to influence the outcome by campaigning for individual candidates. But the exact opposite has been happening in Luo Nyanza? As a matter of fact, most incumbents were blatantly rigged in during the ODM primaries, and went on to successfully defend their seats, all because Raila endorsed their candidature. Corrupt thieves made it back solely because they funded his Raila’s presidential campaigns.

Some governors ODM zones garnered almost all the Luo votes despite being among the worst leaders Kenya has ever produced. Progressive governors such as Kisumu’s Jack Ranguma, who did not play by Baba’s playbook, were unceremoniously kicked out. Come 2022, after another five years of devolution, one can bet that Central Kenya will be another step ahead of Nyanza in terms of development; the writing is on the wall and new leaders, MCAs included, will not want to suffer the same fate as their predecessors.

In Nyanza, logic dictates that the leaders will sit pretty, ignore service delivery, loot from public coffers, continue to fund their masters and still get a free pass in the next election. There can’t be a better definition to politics of poverty.https://i.onthe.io/0fgjhs1t2nje02ujo8.15edef83.jpg

It’s only a matter of time before you are labeled a Tribalist for pointing out the obvious.

nothing far from the truth.most of the NASA strongholds spend too much energy on hating they even turn away the national government as it tries to make developmental inroads just because its headed by their perennial rival.
I am yet to see any solid legacy the former P.M will leave to the fanatical following except for the obvious narrative of fighting for democracy.
