There is a little support for the war in America, among the US populace. Going to war with little home support would have been a huge distaster.
International pressure against USA. Most of its allies such as European union and UK were against the war and this risked sidelining US in the global politics. In addition the major global powers such as Russia and China were also showing their no support for any further confrontation at all.
America would have challenging times ahead had they gone to war and this would have given China a good time to feast on lunch while US is busy fighting here and there. Overall Iran seems winners because they have challenged the so called super power today without any response from them. This makes US appear weaker in the world stage

Iran is not interested in killing people. Its interests are in oil pipelines from Iran to Syria through Iraq, ports in Tartus and Latakia. It has achieved and is achieving that.
