World Cup Champions Curse : Non-starter statistics

France 2002 : Exited in the group stages after having won in 1998
Italy in 2010: Get’s knocked out in the group stage.
Spain in 2014: Get’s knocked out in the group stage.

* only Brazil have broken the curse before

Germany in 2018?

The so called big
Teams wanakipata hii worldcup

Totally agree. Each team that makes it to the world cup is as good as the best teams in the world.

Second, the gap between some of the perceived big teams and small teams is reducing. The games are becoming quite technical and unlike big teams which focus on individual players, the perceived underdogs are building their games around teamwork.

Too early to start speculating. The world cup is just going to be won by the same teams that have been winning it eons ago.
Even with the loses, you can see the level of competence that has been shown by the big teams. Playing good attacking football unlike the smaller teams which are surviving by just parking the bus(which in itself is not a strategy that is sustainable)

In this context Mexico didn’t park the bus yesterday, they could have beaten Germany hands down with a higher scoreline probably 5-0. Its the clinical finishing that let them down at times.

Seems funny that you guys are writing off the Germans already. Remember these people won ALL their qualifier matches.

That game was pure entertainment but Mexico should have scored more on their frequent breaks. Both teams were playing attacking football and the more clinical one won the game

True, but not the case yesterday when they lost, they were also beaten by Austria in a friendly just before they took off to Russia. As has been pointed out, the gap between the so called big teams and small teams is reducing. Also they have to overcome the defending champions ‘curse’

I don’t understand why Ozil is in German football team. He is the most lazy footballer in the 21st century

With exception of African teams.

I think they played more of a counter attacking game, whose hallmark is basically parking the bus with some bursts of quick acceleration and then reversing back to the parking slot.
The thing that has disappointed me so far is the number of side and back passes, I think defenders are getting more touches on the ball than the other players, too cautious an approach, just hope its because they were the first games and come the second round of games teams will be willing to venture forward more.

Talking about clinical finishing, if both teams were clinical, German could have scored more goals than Mexico.

Mexico’s goalie was marvelous.

Germany was wasteful in front of goal, its like Kroos was the striker and other dudes like Oezil were joy-riders

round of 16 ndio world cup itaanza sawasawa hapo ndio unaonanga mafans wakilia kama watoto

That is true and genuine happiness personified.

African teams just go for political correctness. Maembe tu. Unless we are talking about France which is African in all ways possible

Some teams are also quite black… England, Netherlands, Belgium, South American teams like Colombia & Ecuador, Central America, US…

Some are still struggling though with entrenched racism despite having significant black populations eg Germany, Spain (blacks VERY VERY occasionally) and Italy (only ever seen Balotelli)…

But France at times is practically an imported African team
