A new conflict has arisen from the immigrant crisis happening in the Mediterranean area. Apparently, Aljazeera English has directed their announcers to drop the word ‘immigrants’ and instead they should use the word ‘refugees’. BBC says that ‘refugees’ is a politically loaded word while Aljazeera argue that ‘immigrants’ is the politically loaded word!
So, now, what’s your take? Refugees or immigrants?

Most if not all of those fellows are from predominantly Muslim countries hence the reason why Al Jazeera wants to twist the narrative. The reverse is true for BBC.

BBC wants to use immigrants so they can continue calling them ‘illegal immigrants’. While it wouldn’t sound right to refer to them as ‘illegal refugees’

Al Jazeera always portrays Muslims as victims. In any case, some of those guys are not coming from war ravaged countries so they can be categorized as immigrants.

Refugee implies some form of imminent danger will befall the said individuals if they continue to live in that particular area while an immigrant could just be looking for greener pastures
