I had exactly this problem yesterday evening. No thumbnails and YT was a bit sluggish. FYI Am on 40mbps Suffericon Home Fiber.
Thought that was caused by the Adguard Home and I almost uninstalled it.

I’m experiencing the same thing this morning.
This is 100% a Safaricom problem. I’ve had this issue since yesterday. Youtube is perfectly fine on Faiba and Telkom.

Sufferingcom is cooking something and they messed up their DNS and also their routes to the CDNs
Had the same problem from friday till yesterday, am also on Safaricom fiber, I restarted my router several times thinking it was a local problem, and even had to reset the tv to factory settings kumbe i was not the only one
