Removing a sitting Governor is hard, Embu governor survived 2 impeachment and 3 cases. He is still in office and was reelected.
Kericho governor not only survived impeachment but Senate censored the county assembly for doing so without proof or evidence. Personal fallouts isnt good enough reason. Makueni governor was impeached and county assembly went as far as calling for dissolution of the whole county. President Uhuru declined. The whole assembly got voted out in the next elections. These earlier cases has sent a precedent in Senate for all other future impeachment cases before it.
YT2 case is straight forward. He stolen and enrich his family. That burned all sympathy and favour in the grassroots that he had. Even if he goes door to door on Kiambu with DP Uncle Ruto, he is not electable ever again. The fact that the court specifically suspended YT2 as Governor has really dented his options. He is on half pay and his suspension means his DG takes over as acting Governor until case is determined. Sonko was not suspended as Governor, he still gets his full pay and that’s how his lawyer Sen. Mutula jnr advised him to name a substantial DG as he is still Governor. He is barred from official office as OPP listed the office as a crime scene. This means he will interfere the crime scene by his presence there and break his bond terms.
YT2 has realized that he has possibly placed his family in prison with him. He is frantically trying plea deals to save them not even himself. That is why he has gone silent. Offering all cash back etc. EACC are not even going around looking for him. He is the one chasing them.
This same zeal should be on all governors.
Suppose we get to 2022 before their case is determined, will he be cleared to run?
In 2017 it took a call from President Uhuru to get Sonko his certificate of good conduct from DCI. This is because he threatened to join opposition and ruin Jubilee campaigns in Nairobi. Well same case in 2022 if not now already. Every time they need mobilization in Nairobi they rehabilitate Sonko back into the fold then quickly damp him when they need to control tenders in city hall.
