Thank God the coup wasn’t successful.
Moi was a son of biitch, but if the air force was successful, Kenya would have been worse than it is right now.

This country would have gone into a full-blow civil war that would have lasted for years.

We would probably be worse than Uganda or South Sudan or any of those African countries that had coups after every 5 years.

Now that we will never know…but yes chances are.
By the way watu huenjoi wetangula but kuna venye anafaa apewe heshima yake kama elder…within the last 2 weeks i was with wananchi kwa base ya kushona mandula…kulikuwana mjadala ya kufufua coffee planting in cendro and other areas such as kisii bungoma kach…for a person like me sikujua these 3 areas were once strongholds za coffee planting…and maybe even gave cendro a run for its money when it came to coffee farming…alikuwa anadescribe hizo base zote ma cooperatives zote ka nonsense…halafu aka describe kuna jamaa alikuwa anaitwa ‘karakacha’ lunje for ‘agriculture’ who was an extention officer who would walk from compound to compound inspecting coffee bushes…and if they werent well taken care of…karakacha would call out your mum and dad and nyorosha them viboko ya mgongo for neglecting the coffee…because ‘it wasnt enough just to plant coffee…but you have to take care of it’.
Oya mikel if you stumble upon this can your wazees confirm seeing any of this?
& by the way karakacha would woop your dad and mum and theyd do jack about it.

I recall a hilarious story involving a man from my village. He was in Nairobi when the coup happened. Grapevine has it that he was strolling the streets of the capital some hours after the coup had been quelled. The streets were virtually empty since most people feared to go outside. He was passing through some bank then around OTC when he noticed a gunia with what looked like just rubbish in it. He got curious and went to check what was inside it. To his shock and disbelief he found notes arranged inside. Thousands of shillings. He didn’t even go back to his house. He just boarded the next vehicle to Nyeri and never returned to Nairobi. He built a nice house in his rural farm and started a posho mill business and a shop and also bought a vehicle. Unluckily, he later lost an arm in unexplainable circumstances. He must be in his eighties today.

Kitambo kuokota pesa was very common especially around end month. Kuna mzee najua aliokota yenye wezi walikua wameiba kwa bank.kwa ile hali ya kufwatwa na polisi wakarusha msituni mahali…hapo ndio vile mzee alibahatika.

Sijui risto poa…but nakumbuka kwa one of these documentaries za history ya kenya alikuwa interviewed akadai immediately after campus he was appointed as a judge or something…but he wasnt comfortable with adjudicating aka quit akaingia lawyering…iyo documentary ili air this year or last year…so kama alitinga campo kama amengia works…you can estimate.
Story kama hio.

Can you tell us more about this Col Ochuka. Like alitoka wapi, education levels, professional background. From what l gather he was not the sharpest tool in the shed. Alafu what was his connection with the Odingas, kama Oginga alisponsor the coup, where does that leave poor Ochuka. It’s most likely he was a pawn for the richer politicians esp Raila

I recall very well my brother. I was in the USA as you just said but we received breaking news on VOA insinuating that there was a failed coup d etat but the then president has managed to quell it through his loyal army commanders. I called my family back in Nyeri and they assured me that everything was okay but the capital city was under some sort of curfew.
