When you browse say a particular website, your phone makes a request to your Internet Service Provider(ISP). Your ISP then requests the data from the servers of the website. The servers get the request, transmits the data to the ISP who then transmits it to you.
This takes time. It’s what is called Latency.
It makes websites with faraway servers noticeably slower than ones with nearby servers.
Btw, Google solves this issue by having servers in every continent. Other sites can’t afford to do this.
Latency relates to ping. If 5G lowers ping, the better. It is supposed to lower it, not raise it. This will benefit gamers mostly though.

other sites can easily afford to do this by using 3rd party CDN providers like Cloudflare, MaxCDN, Akamai etc. they don’t have to set up their own CDN service in every content.
