That is neither here nor there.
I schooled in a university where nearly 3/4 of staff were kikuyus, right from the VC. Lecturers were always complaining about many months of unpaid salaries. The worse part is, it was no longer even about kikuyus, it was about the VC reducing the institution to almost a clan/family entity because most of the employees were either direct or indirect relatives of VC.
Tulienda strike mara kadhaa VC abadilishwe but to no avail, the guy was very well connected up there. Surprisingly, the locals were fully in support of the strikes because hata casual jobs hapo university hawakuwa wanapata, ilikuwa inaendea relas wa VC. He is still the VC of that institution, na nilitoka uko 5 years ago

The fact is many public universities are insolvent, corruption rules, merit is not the basis for employment and promotion.
Many engaged in unsustainable expansion projects.
Tribe is not the root cause of the downward spiral. It is merely a manifestation of unethical practices.

[li]Egerton University has closed its main campus in Njoro, Nakuru indefinitely following a strike by the teaching and non-teaching staff.[/li]In a memo by the Registrar Academic Affairs dated Friday, November 26, the university stated that the institution will remain closed until a solution on the staff return-to-work formula is reached.
According to the memo seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the students were ordered to vacate the university premises by Tuesday, November 30.

Egerton University students outside the main administration block on September 29, 2017. The University has slashed the salaries of its employees by 40%.
The decision to shut down the university was reached after a meeting by the varsity’s Senate held on Thursday, November 25.
''Following the strike by university teaching staff which has disrupted learning in the institution, the Senate at its 533rd meeting held on Thursday, November 25, resolved to close the university with immediate effect until further notice," the memo read.
The memo also stated that any important updates will be communicated through the university website, social media platforms, and any other convenient means.
Additionally, all learning programs were suspended as a result.
The teaching and non-teaching staff downed their tools after a seven-day strike notice over what they termed as sustained and systematic industrial injustices and employer cruelty.
The striking staff withdrew their services and marched to the institution’s administration block where they sought audience with the top leadership.
Egerton UASU chapter chair, Prof Mwaniki Ngari, accused the university’s leadership of sinking the institution into a financial and managerial crisis.
“There has been high-handedness and dictatorial tendencies by a leadership that does not accommodate other people’s divergent opinions. Nobody should have the monopoly of ideas in running public institutions ,” he stated.
He further added that the staff and students had a strained relationship with the neighboring community due to the management’s disregard of their interdependence.

All these public universities… it’s just a matter of time. Parallel degrees were the source of funds. The taps were closed by Matiangi.
Make peace with yourself… It’s gone waters now!
Though post is quite informative and elicits a healthy debate on the management of public institutiins, , the tittle is quite misleading and tribal. Egerton university isnt a Kalenjin Institution…Its a Kenyan public University that has been ran down by mismanagement and corruption…Egerton and Moi universities represent a number of public institutions both nationally and county level tht are having dificulties competing due to selfish and management incompetencies
