Apart from technical ability, the EPL has no break the whole season while the rest have winter breaks. That means burn out, injuries and lack of form creeps in at the 2nd half of the season. In Spain & Germany their leagues supports their teams in Europe and reschedule tough fixtures to help them along.

In Spain and Germany, the top two teams barely have to break a sweat while playing the weaker teams. Sometimes they rest almost their entire first team before a Champions League match. In England, it’s full throttle for almost all games and they wear out early.

That means in December they take a winter break since most of Northern Europe from Germany can’t play in their open pitches which are snowed in. That one month really helps their squad to relax and recharge. FA want games in the festive season as per its traditions so they play throughout. They also have two cup competitions. FA and League Cup.

TV rights, its very lucrative for clubs and EPL to play and air those matches during the festive periods. Money talks. In Dec to New Year clubs play 8 matches each and they attract global audience since the rest aren’t playing.
