I had problems with my aircon on Toyota corolla 1996. It had some strange smell when I was reaching 70+km on the road. I also noticed some crackling sounds when parking. It shouldn’t break because I was very careful with cleaning the whole system. And in general, I exploited aircon as was guided in the manuals. So, the problem was in the rusted bolts that started to exfoliate.
