The problem with modernity is that it assumes that science can explain everything. Frankly, i find the big bang theory to be more absurd than creation theory. Science tends to overestimate its capabilities. The so called modern, ‘civilised’ and ‘enlightened’ man cannot imagine himself worshipping God even though he will have no problem worshipping the so called celebrities.

Still, religion has done great disservice to God thusly granting atheists very potent weapons to attack believers with.

If only 40% of Kenyan Christians actually practiced Jesus doctrine as opposed to Christianity (read denominational) doctrines, Kenya would be a small paradise on earth. Because religion tends to attract the hopeless/poor, many people assume that religion is for the simple-minded but God is not religion and, certainly, to treat other people the way we’d expect them to treat us is obviously not a doctrine of the ‘simple-minded’. To forgive is certainly not a domain of the weak/simple-minded; it is the domain of the strong. To always act with justice is certainly not a domain of the simple minded; it is a domain of visionaries. And to love is not the domain of the weak/narrow minded; it’s a domain of the strong. Even the most sophisticated/learned want people to treat them nicely/with justice and this, to a large extent, is all what God is all about. In fact, if everyone adopted this commandment, the world would instantly become a paradise.

Throughout the ages, it is religion/machinations of the religious class and not God that has been the problem.

Firstly, it is simply against human nature to practice fundamentalist Christianity. It is impractical. This is true for many other religions whether they preach vanity or not.
Humans can hardly achieve perfection as religion might want to show you. If you can learn from many other realms of biological life, members of a species are supposed to compete and knock each other out in a bid to survive. That is why there is rich and poor. The ideal of a benevolent man who shares everything is a myth. It has never happened and will never happen. All violence and misery is brought by competition, and this is not unique to humans. Sharing is against basic human instincts unless it is done to secure own security.
And as for the hegemony, the idea of a god is good for the poor serfs while they feel no need to follow through with their teaching themselves. Isn’t Vatican, Deya, Kanyari, colonial missionaries etc sufficient evidence?

Sure, but man assumes that science can offer solutions to all of mankind’s ‘mysteries’ and ‘unknowns’.
For instance, in order to deny Christ’s resurrection, some fringe groups claim that Christ actually never died but was simply revived after suffering from some form of coma on the cross, in part due to the cool environment of his sepulchre.
What man fails to understand is that he was originally meant to be the ‘master’ of the creation(earth and all of its components). This means that quest for knowledge is good and, in fact, encouraged by the Creator. However, what God wants and what man doesn’t want is that when the latter discovers the marvelous workings of the sun, he sees God in that piece of creation and, consequently, praise Him. Man is too proud to bend this ‘low’ and recognize a supernatural being in the creation of the sun. However, God has given man free will to act as he wishes.
If you look carefully, you will discover that contrary to popular beliefs, God is even not very demanding. Realistically, an average person can abide by the 10 commandments without stressing himself too much. Consider God’s Law with the laws that human beings craft in order to control fellow humans. Even some of the most learned people rarely understand human laws.
That said, i’d rather be a slave of God than be a slave to fellow humans(through consumerism, celebrity worship, mind control, political sycophancy etc). For the sake of the argument, let’s assume that God doesn’t exist; if believing in a non existent God makes me respect my parents in ways that i couldn’t manage if i was a non-believer, then let it be so. If believing in a non existent God makes me avoid sexual immorality and, consequently, avoid diseases like HIV/AIDS and also protect me from having half of income going to support kids that i sired out of wedlock, then i am all too ready to believe in this ‘Non-existent’ God.

The reason why science carries so much weight when it comes to the pursuit for knowledge about the universe is because of it’s objective nature and reliability. It’s reliability comes from the fact that it’s premises and declarations can be independently verified. Most religions presuppose the existence of their deity and that it/she/he is the real one and that’s where the madness begins.

About the claim of Jesus not being dead, that is just those groups trying to interpret the bible in a realistic manner according to what we know about the physiological functions of the human body. This knowledge is the same that we use to treat and even cure diseases and its reliability is verified.

The problem about simply accepting nature to be God’s creation is that this limits and literally invalidates the need to pursue knowledge. If diseases and earthquakes can simply be explained as the will of God why do we need to study them.

I don’t know whether human beings have freewill or not, but the idea of God being omniscient invalidates the phenomenon. The idea of hell aslo seema to be a limit to freewill. One of the ten commandments demands that humans not to worship any other god apart frpm Yaweh. God is demanding.

I don’t know how you can believe in a non existent god, I simply lack the belief in deities. This allows me to take sole responsibility of my actions.

Point of correction, Europeans did not introduce Christianity to Africa. The Kingdom of Aksum (present day Ethiopia and Eritrea) was already a Christian nation centuries before the Europeans came and colonized Africans.
