A crate of eggs was going for 300bob a few months ago. Today, it is retailing at about 450bob.

Open the import doors and the price will come down but the local farmers will be locked out of the business because of high cost of inputs.

open import doors, loose valuable foreign exchange, kenya shilling loses against regional currencies, prices of imports goes higher, kenya loses more money on imports versus exports. rinse repeat.
local production (with lower energy prices i.e. stima, mafuta) is solution lakini wakiambiwa wanasema subsidy mbaya.

Poultry farming isn’t as big, and the food isn’t staple.

When you have an abundance of food, the well established cartels in the food industry lose their power.

And don’t get it twisted, more people will benefit from the abundance than those that will lose out in sales.

Plus food abundance in a country as innovative as Kenya will push the sellers to manufacturing and value addition
