Can this car do long distance drives, like from Nairobi to Mombasa on an occasional basis, or is it just a town car. Need it as my first car, but would like to hear from owners before going for it. Mimi ni mkulima mdogo, mfuko yangu inafika hapo

By the way if you are still interested in the FIT, you can try the RS version. Thats the top-of-the line Fit. I saw one at Dagoretti corner in a car yard opposite the meterological dept offices along ngong road. Not sure of the price though.

You dont need to do service, oil change etc before going long distance. Just stick to oil change intervals. What most people dont realize is that driving long distance is actually much easier on a car than doing the equivalent distance say within town. Its normally said that something like 200km long distance driving is equivalent to 20kms town driving when it comes to car maintenance. This is because on long distance, you tend to travel at a constant speed for long periods. Town driving your always start-stopping, continually shifting gears, braking alot of the time, your radiator fan comes on/off alot etc.

You have a point, though there are some issues that if hit you within town, may be a minor annoyance, but if in the middle of a trip to the middle of nowhere, major malfunction.

True. And I think if you have a car that you know is problematic, dont do long distance. But if your car is operating normally, then there should not be a problem. Changing the oil and service etc before a long distance trip wont change the equation as long as your car is reliable.
