The PricewaterhouseCoopers audit report on the maize scandal exposes how fictitious companies raked in millions of shillings.
The report adds many entities clearly had nothing to do with milling or trading as evidenced from records at the Companies Registry or as submitted to us.
Among those named is Buzeki, which was allocated 70,000 bags and purchased 150,000 bags yet its business is transport.

With most of the maize ending up in the hands of a handful of players — primarily Mombasa Maize Millers Ltd, but also Buzeki Enterprises Ltd, Pembe Flour Mills Ltd, Kitale Industries Ltd and Eldoret Grains Ltd — the business was captured by a tiny cartel that dictated the terms.
Clearly, the millers were now in a position where they could orchestrate shortages and keep prices at artificially high levels. According to evidence in the PWC report, Mombasa Maize Millers hogged 25 per cent of the subsidised maize business. (MMM Ltd, according to the PWC, is also associated with Kitale Industries Ltd, which captured four per cent of the business).
Among the companies that received large maize allocations include Buzeki Transporters, Kitale Industries, Export Trading (K) Limited and Mafuta Farm.

Ruto’s son went to Mang’u probably on recommendation from Uncle Buzeki who also attended Mang’u a few years before.
